hi, how can I upgrade from Version 2.6 to 2.7 without losing or damaging my actual database.
I exported the database for secure. I installed the new version 2.7 but i don't know exactly what to do. Have i to copy   only all the files from the old version directory in the new one. I use XAMPP as PHP/MYSQLplatform.
My CMS  for wb2.6 is in .../htdocs/wb and for 2.7 in .../htdocs/wb27
what I to do now?

Thanks

Hello,

please read the documentation available which explains how to upgrade from 2.6 to 2.6.7. Upgrading WB to 2.7 is only possible from WB 2.6.7. Once you have 2.6.7, upload all files via ftp (except config.php) and run the upgrade-script.php in the root folder of WB.

It would be nice if that script would actually be there...

Now i'm stuck with the new files uploaded, but no upgrade script!
Where can i find it? (downloaded the ZIP file earlier today)

Hello,

it is in the WB 2.7 package at the same folder where config.php is.

My first attempt didn't go so well, I received a statement on install saying that WB 2.7 was missing some files so I uploaded all the content again and got the same message. I gave up and did a fresh install because it was a new site so I hadn't put any content in yet. 2.7 looks and feels great!

I have another site that is in development and has content in it and is almost ready to post but I am concerned that the same thing might happen.

QUESTION:

The directions state:
"create a backup of the /pages and /templates folder"

"Copy all installation files except folder /install and the file config.php via FTP to your server (simply overwrite the files of your existing WB installation)."

So it sounds like I am to upload all the folders and their contents (ie: /account  /admin  /framework/  etc.) and overwrite the existing folders and files except as directed above. What about the /media folder? It is full of images and documents. Are there other possible exceptions?

Thank you.

Michael

Hello,

the folders /pages and /media contained in the installation package do only include a index.php file (WB core). Hence custom files can not be overwritten. If you are using a modified default template (one of the four templates distributed with WB) you need to create a backup. Otherwise the template files will be overwritten, as they are included in the installation package.

Details about updating from 2.6.7 can be found on the website baker start site.

Hi Christian,

Thank you for your prompt reply. What you say makes sense. For my own clarify, I would maybe reword the instructions (which I read a number of times) to be a bit more specific. I get a little nervous about doing something to crash my site.

ie:
Copy all installation folders contained in the "wb" folder with their contents via FTP to your server (simply overwrite the folders/files of your existing WB installation) except:
- upload only the index files from the /media and /pages folders to your existing /media and /pages folders
- do not upload the folder /install or the file config.php
Note: If your are using one of the four default WebsiteBaker templates, any modifications made will be overwritten. Please backup the entire /templates folder before copying the WB 2.7 installation files via FTP on your server.

Is this correct?

Hello,

Quote from: mviens
- upload only the index files from the /media and /pages folders to your existing /media and /pages folders
Media and pages folder do only contain a single index.php file, so simply upload the folders from the installation package is enough.

All other steps are mentioned in the block Backup and Upgrade from 2.6.7 on the WB 2.7 help site in the order you need to execute the steps: backup, prerequisites, upgrade, wrap up.
