Remove the credits from pages
«

Hello,
I know that WB is under GNU license but there’s any chance to remove the credits from pages foot? Can I buy that right?
I don’t pretend to put the credits to myself. All I want is “offer” the CMS to my web clients without any credit at all. The credits are important for developers not for a client and there's a lot of explanations to give when a client see the credits. Some of them even ask why are they paying for something that's free and that we didn't developed.
The credits on the page code will remain untouched, of course.
I’m asking you this because there are some GNU programs on the net that sell that option.
Sorry about my bad English. By the way. Your Portuguese European translation is awful.
The guy that made it must be Brazilian! I’ll make one for myself and then I’ll submit you.
Thanks.

You can remove the footer from the front-end pages but not from the admin pages: See

Why should you do that?
You better educate your clients soon!
I make a lot of pages for clients with websitebaker, and of course I tell them: this is a free CMS. They pay for _my work_ . Or do you tell them, you have designed the CMS also? I guess you dont.
I do also a lot of jobs in graphic design - and it does not make any difference for the clients if I do it with Photoshop or with the free Gimp. Its my choice.

I know your half right. But read this:
"Last but not least: You are NOT required to show the visible Mambo copyright notice on the bottom of a site. It is NOT illegal to remove the generated copyright notice. What the GPL forbids is removal of copyright notices in the SOURCE CODE."
"So with regard to Mambo, the GPL and copyright:
You MAY distribute it and charge for that service. You MAY change it, add design and content to it and you MAY charge for that. You may NOT alter the license and you must NOT alter the copyright. You do NOT have to show a 'Powered by Mambo' graphic, as it not a copyright notice."
These are the terms for Mambo.
About Photoshop and Gimp, it's a bad example. These are tools YOU use to make something on your computer without selling the progs to anyone. WB is a tool you SELL to your client so HE can use it.

There are 2 parts:
1) Frontend - On the frontend there is nothing required by websitebaker, unless the template used requires something else
2) Backend: The Disclaimer in the Backend "websitebaker is released under the GNU General Public License" is required to stay in by the GNU GPL paragraph 1:
Quote
1. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the Program's source code as you receive it, in any medium, provided that you conspicuously and appropriately publish on each copy an appropriate copyright notice and disclaimer of warranty;
keep intact all the notices that refer to this License and to the absence of any warranty
; and give any other recipients of the Program a copy of this License along with the Program.
cheers

I dont SELL websitebaker. I cannot (would not) sell anything, that is free for everyone. That would be imposture to me. I SELL my service: installing it, make a custom template, choose and install and modify modules, help the client to get started.
That is my job.
What is when my client finds out, that I sold him a free software?

Just tell him it would have cost a lot more to make from the ground up for the same features.
I mean most clients want the most for their money, and yes its not completely custom but its a lot cheaper for them. And if they don't like that answer say you'll have to charge how ever much more a ground up CMS would take for the job.

Aha, but you did not sell him free software, you sold him your service
If you try to cover the fact that they are using WebsiteBaker then I do not believe that is a very ethical business practise.

Hi there,,
I would like to know if I can remove credits from the maker of the template in the footer, even if they ask please keep the link to them.
The template is a fully open source without restrictions but with the request to leave the credits in the footer.
I prefer leaving that space for contact adres of the owner of the site.
Can I just delete it? It is the template multiflex3.

A request is not an obligation, so I guess you can remove it. But to be sure, just ask the template creator. Did you do that?
