I found several threads discussing LDAP authentication, which doesn't seem to be making any progress.  I'm not a programmer, but I wonder if anyone has attempted to have WebsiteBaker users authenticate against an IMAP server?

I'm thinking about using WB for an intranet application site.  Since all the users will already have account credentials on the IMAP server, I was thinking about trying to authenticate using that.

Why would you try to authenticate against a Mailserver? You can even talk to MS Active Directory via the LDAP Protocol ...

cheers

The only reason that I would like to use IMAP authentication is because (in this case) all the WB users already have credentials on the mail server.  Ideally, I'd like to authenticate regular system users without creating duplicate user accounts in WB.  For this WB installation, the users already have system credentials that are syncronzized with samba, imap, & shadow passwords.  LDAP is not set up and there doesn't seem to be a finalized LDAP module for WB, anyway.  This WB would only be available to the local intranet as a way to run a php/MySQL database application.

Thanks.

Hi,
I think most of the hosting providers wont provide with LDAP, and I found I need to have shell access and in fact root previlges inorder to install LDAP (correct me if I'm wrong, if there are any ldap packages for which I need not have shell and root access.).
So authentication againt mail server (imap) is a good idea.

Hoping for a positive reply.
