I'm on Bluehost.  While waiting for domain registration issues to be settled I went ahead and built a revised site for my client.  I put the new pages in a wb folder on my root domain with Bluehost.  They allow multiple domains to be added under that.  Once I got the name servers pointed to Bluehost I was able to create a domain using the client's site name.  I was told by Bluehost that the database I'd created with the test site would be completely usable by the new domain.  I backed it up and went ahead with the install.  What I didn't anticipate was that the install was going to store over the existing data.

I've tried importing the backup of the database in phpMyAdmin, but I get a message that tables already exist.  How do I restore the old data?

How should I have gone about this so that the old data would not have been copied over by the installation, or is that possible?

Hello,

well you should have read the documentation available or the installation guide in advance. Before doing such modification, also backup the entire /page folder and the MySQL database of course. Hope you can manage to restore your data.

Good luck Christian

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did have everything backed up.

The import worked by going into phpMyAdmin, selecting all the tables, then selecting 'drop.'  After that, the import worked perfectly.   Is it common to have to drop tables before restoring a database?  I've never had to restore one before.

If I hadn't goofed up later, accidentally uploading my templates>index.php to the root, thereby making the site disappear for awhile, I'd say the move went fairly well.
