I just came across this WYSIWYG editor that has a different approach to editing compared to the other WYSIWYG editors. It concentrates on the content and doesn't give the user the opportunity to screw up the layout and/or use ugly fonts and colors when editing a text. Just have a look at their site and the demo and you'll see what I mean:
http://www.wymeditor.org/en/

I think that this would be worth implementing as a mod. What do you guys think? Has anybody tried it already by any chance?

Kind regards,
Bas

I like it.  The other editors can have the extra options removed, but it's trickier to get set-up.

Having an out-of-the-box default of clean code would be a great option.  When I finally got FCKedit working, I was glad it was much faster than Xinha, but I'm not as sure about how clean the markup is.

Give it a shot, please!

Looks like the editor I've always wanted to let customers use: no possibilities to mess up the design, simple and straightforward. I don't know if it works as good with page ID's as the fckeditor does, but it's certainly worth investigating. Unfortunately I don't have any talent/skills in developing modules, but would be very interested to see the implementation in WB indeed.

Glad you guys like it. Unfortunately I'm working on another much wanted module right now (a shopping cart), so I don't have the time for it (yet). Perhaps somebody else (also with more experience than me) would like to give it a try in the meantime.

Hi,
I also like the editor.
Well, the reduced toolbar can also be achieved with FCKeditor.

But this editor wraps the content nicely in the corresponding styles.
The basic functions and advanced one are very smoothly separated!

May it can even be used to have a internal preview of the edited page before submitting the changes?

EDIT:
There's a forum post which leads us the way:
Displaying text from a DB

We can also take a lookinto the Drupal module...

Sorry, I ain't got no time currently. But I'd be a beta-tester for it!

Bazz, getting off topic, and not to steal any thunder from doing it yourself, but I just ran across this cart framework:

www.webforcecart.co m/

Looks pretty complete.

No prob, no thunder has been stolen, because guess what I'm using for the shopping cart...? Indeed, wfCart! Coincidence, huh?! I don't want to get too much off topic, so I'll open a topic on this subject soon, but until that time, you can get a (Dutch localized) preview here: http://www.verlengdehoutrakgracht.nl/pages/webshop.php?lang=NL (Just for the record, it's FAR from finished!)

And on topic again, Rob (aka rsmith; the man who codes faster than his shadow  wink ) has sent me the following messages, that look really promising!
Quote
Hi

Ive got the WYMEditor as a WB Module.... "Beta" only it works but have only done limited testing

. there are some issues (listed on the page below) that will have to be addressed before a fully functional version is ready.... I will see about the additional issues asap.. but for the first hour of integration its coming along well with no adjustments to the WB core..

http://slink2.no-ip.info:82/wsb/pages/wb-ideas/test-pages/wymeditor-test.php

Rob
And in reaction to my question whether or not I was allowed to make this information public, he told me:

HI
Your or I can add to the thread.... biggest issue is that it doesn't support multiple sections so is unusable for WB, multiple wysiwyg or a single news post will break it since they have 2 textareas....

I need to set up an account so I can post, as well as 2 textareas within one form, needs to support multiple forms per page...

one those additions in version 0.3 have been added it shouldn't take long to integrate it

Rob
So very good news already, thanks Rob, you tha man! cheesy
It seems we only have to wait for the next version of WYMeditor for it to fully work with WB!

Hi!
new version's out:

Quote
WYMeditor is a web-based WYSIWYM XHTML editor. This new version has been rewritten to be easier to integrate and to extend, using the JavaScript library jQuery (http://jquery.com), which also greatly improves the code quality and robustness. WYMeditor is compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0+, Gecko-based browsers (e.g. Mozilla Firefox 1.5+), and Opera 9.0+. http://www.wymeditor.org/

Has anyone looked into this recently? WYMeditor version 0.4 is now out. This would make a wonderful editor for customers.

Rob, have you, or anyone else tried this new version? If so, how does it work with WB?

I would like to see this one as a editor choice for WB too.
