Module "MassMail" Version 0.1

Purpose: Send a Mail to all registered visitors of your website at once. If you want to, the users can see all sent Massmails.

Status: It is far from being finished, currently (March 2005) i'm testing the module. Nevertheless you can try to use it. Maybe you have to alter the PHP-Code to customize it.

Installation: That's easy: Download the ZIP and install it in the WebsiteBaker Administration. MASSMAIL will create a new table during install. The Table will be droped in uninstall.

Usage: Create a new page for the Massmail-Module. You probably want to set the visibility of this page to something other than "public". On the Page, users will be able to read all sent mails.
To write a new mail, go into the admin panel and configure the massmail-Page. You will be able to type in a subject and the mail body. You see all EMail-Adresses, which will get the mail. The EMail-Adresses will be inserted in BCC of the Mail. Click send will do the job. You will receive a control message with all Mails in the Body.

Bugs and Limitations:

    * You can only sent mails to all registered users! No Filter possible.
    * You yourself will receive the Mail multiple times: 2 times other users (because you are listed in the TO and BCC-Header! and a third time for your reference (with a listing of all BCC-Mailadresses).
    * Configuration is currently absent.
    * You cannot delete Mails int the archive. (well, you can do this by manipulate the Database directly...)
    * No Translation used. All text should be english, but there may be some german words in it. e.g. The Date will be formatted with date("d-m-Y, H:m"), which is normal in Germany.

P.S. Poll: I'm just trying it - i've never run a poll before.. forgive me!

This would make a great mod. I use phplist and would like to remove it.

Hudge, if you can polish either this one or yours up, it would be great. Looks like jolz not available for it.

I'm been looking at using phplist, but I'd love to be able to integrate it into WB

The mentioned limitations of no filters shouldn't be hard to fix, I'd think. One new drop-down load & list.  And for the users, the SQL would just Select in the group id at the same time the email is selected.

The feature of phplist not to send the same email to people on multiple lists would be good too, if you don't use the WB user groups. (only 1 group per user is allowed in WB, right?)

I'd like to try it myself (still learning WB, SQL & PHP) but don't have the time at present. Trying to finish off a site, taking a Java course, mastering CDs, not to mention family... oh, and working full-time.

Yeah I am php noob. I know how to read and copy and paste. No writing skills kind of like my spanish Sad

I think I got as far as I can right now, so if anyone has a minute please check it out this would be a great mod.

Check out this thread:
http://forum.websitebaker.org/index.php/topic,194.0.html

Here is another approach and here is my attempt at the mod. It is only for visual it is not functional Sad

http://www.hudge.com/contributes/newletter.zip
I think the mod should be called maillist.

If you are looking for a paid alternative to phplist, I would use this it is quite good.

No knock to phplist I use it to but its interface is UGLY!!!!

Hello uchr,

worked on the massmail modul too, but had another idea with this. The idea for this modul is very good, but to use a new page seems for me to be a very bad solution. This was in WB 2.5.x i think the only posibility to create such a tool. Sinc 2.6.x we have the ability to create admin tools, for the advanced option section. And as this modul normally is only used from the admin to send mails to his users i think the wright place should be there. Have the modul ready at home. The only thing i don't get to work was to use the new wb mail function. So if you interested, i can send you my attemps per PM.

My 2cts

Don't change it to admin tool...

Why?

You could use the page for viewing archived newsletters
Just some changes to view.php would do that

The same page could allso be used for signing on or of to newsletters

And if you don't need it, just hide the page from menu.

Again,
Just 2 cts...

Hello John,

never thougt to use this for the frontend, but you are wright. If its possible to use this as newsletter we then had two modules in one wich i think a lot of people (me included) are looking for. So it's really better to use it as a page and not as a tool (admin tool only makes sense when only admins should use it). Maybe uffe can make a modify settings page where the visibility for the frontend can be set per group. Mean adding this modul as a section to a page, and if a user is logged in he sees the newsletters from the group where he is in. Just ideas.

In this version 2.0 you can use the page for viewing archived newsletters.
I will wait a little to see if it should be changed.

Nice module, uffe. smiley
Would it also be possible to make an unsubscribe function, just in case people aren't interested in receiving massmail?

By the way, uffe, it says 'unsubscripe' in your module, but I think it should be 'unsubscribe', since it originates from latin: scribere... wink

Maybe you should inform Woudloper so it ends up in the completed modules-list: http://forum.websitebaker.org/index.php/topic,2113.msg12992.html#msg12992

I would assume this cold also probably be used for a mailing list. Would be ice to have a simple one people could subscribe and or unsubscribe from your home page to. I need that rather than the registered users verison.
