Could someone tell me how stable this module is to use with the latest WB version?

it works great for me...

I've send a PM to the creator of this module because I would love to use it without users having to register to WB. Just adding their e-mail address would do for me and the opportunity to unsubscribe.
I realy like te possibility to show the masmials send to the subscribed members.

If someone could have a look at: http://www.hotscripts.com/Detailed/57322.html?

I'm trying this one out on a local test-bed, the initial module install works fine, but when I try to add the module to a page, I get the following error message:

Fatal error: Call to a member function numRows() on a non-object in C:\wamp\www\wb\modules\massmail\modify.php on line 47

Hi,

there is an error in the install skript in version 2.20:

install.php:

change
Line 46:        . ' `date` INT(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT \'\','
Line 47:        . ' `group_id` INT(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT \'\','

to
Line 46:        . ' `date` INT(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT \'0\','
Line 47:        . ' `group_id` INT(11) NOT NULL DEFAULT \'0\','

(maybe some versions of mysql doesn't matter about this wrong default settings)

A patched version is appended

Hi uchr,

I think Massmail is a great module.
I didn't use it yet but I just installed it to get a quick overview.

I'm interested in using it - especially because of the mail archive - but my needs differ a little bit from what Massmail offers at the moment.
  • I don't want that my visitors have to register as users of the web page. They only should be able to (un)register their email address for a Newsletter (mass mail).
  • I need Double Opt-In and Opt-Out
  • When registering the user should be able to select one or more of several topics. (Hmm, I think you realized something similar with the Groups feature but I don't understand if the user himself decides of which group(s) he will be a member??).

What do you think - would it be a good idea to extend the Massmail module to the mentioned features? In this case I would like to offer my help. I have some experience in PHP.
Or do you think it would be better to develop a new module which meets my requirements?

Best Regards
Robyn

Hello,

I just translated this module into Spanish. Hope that it will be useful to somebody else.

Cheers!

Robyn,
I'm planning on  using the Massmail module at some point and would be interested in some of your ideas.

- I'm not sure what you mean by not having visitors register - I think you mean, be able to get a subscription, but not be an actual website member? That's a good idea. Although adding them as a "mail only" member might make more sense. Then you could have a subscriber page where they could change what format they want the newsletter (txt/html), which email they address want to go to, etc. Opitionally, could use their email address AS their id, I like that type of ID for some sites.

- double opt-in and an opt-out is a VERY good idea. mandatory really.

- being able to choose groups is good, I can't remember if you can do that yet or not either

If you can do it, especially the Double Opt-in, PLEASE do it! smiley

Hello,

I read the hole threat to solve my problems with the massmail module, because I really would like to use it.

I still got this error message with the version 2.20_patched:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /homepages/6/d173862970/htdocs/modules/massmail/modify.php on line 47

Even in a new wb- installation I got this message.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Best regards

As you al could have read in one of my previous reply's is that the builder of this contribution with great potential STOPPED working with WB en thus with the development/support of this module.

If someone wants to restart the development please do so!  smiley

I myself realy like this module, especialy if it would be possible to add e-mail addresses from people who are not registered on you WB based site and thus creating a (mass)mailinglist for people who are interested in what you have to say and want to subscribe but not wanting to register.

Thank you for your comment but...

as far as I understand this thread, the patched version was posted after you send this remark. So someone made a next step in developing this tool.

There is also a version on the addon-site. It is different but I get a similar error.

OK, hopefully it will come back to live.

I've installed it twice and it worked, I realy like the option to display the mails-send on your website. The reason why I do not use it at the moment is because I cannot add extra email-addresses form people not registered.

but it shouldn't be too hard to change that ...

Let the install(.)php create a new table (maybe called "email"). In there you only store e-mail addresses. The rewrite the send function that it pulls the e-mail addresses from that table in the DB instead from the usertable.

You create a litle add-email(.)php file which can be fed through a form from the frontend and stores the data in the table above ... and there you go ...

Remember, I am not a programmer, so it is easy for me to say that it's easy ...

cheers

I've looked into that, even found a php file that can insert e-mailsaddresse into a txt-file/database and another file that can pull the addresse from that file to send massmail.
Like you I'm no programmer so I left it with that and I'm using these 2 files and copy my massmail-content into the WB site.
OK, it's a bit of a long way but I've nothing else to work with.

Hee, I can copy/past a lot of code and mostly get it to work  cheesy, but sometimes you have to admit your defeat  rolleyes

When does the error occur as I cannot reproduce this.

I've installed it and no problems here.
