Hi everyone,

I think this module is great, but I wonder if it would be possibble to sign up for "mass mail" directly from the website. Of course you should be able to remove yourself from the mailinglist aswell. This would help the administration of not registered users.

//JC

Yep, that would be a good addition.

Hello,

based on this post in the german subforum:

http://forum.websitebaker.org/index.php/topic,4366.0.html

and of the fantastic work of Rob Smith who fixed this we have released version 2.3.4 at the Add-ons Repository.

Have fun

Hi,

I've been trying this module out and it works grate!  grin

I however need the default wysiwyg editor installed in it and there is also a cupel of bugs so could someone give me a price to do the following to this module and I'll release it to the community.

1) Install default WYSIWYG editor to the email text area.
2) Currently you can add a "User Mail Address" to "All Users" and "Administrators" but you can't delete it?
3) The "User Mail Address" field does not check to see if the imputed text is an email address when "subscribing" an email address e.g you can subscribe yournameyourdomain. com when it should be yourname@yourdomain.com.

I look forward to a response.

Hi John,

what do you mean by:

Quote
... could someone give me a price to do the following to this module and I'll release it to the community

Does it mean:
a) you want some money to fix it
b) you are willing to pay someone to fix it

In any case, thats is not the way how module updates / bugfixes are handled in this forum.

Than you Matthias,
we are re-writing the admin part to be able to generate pure HTML newsletter as in the WYSIWIG module with absolute path to images or other files uploaded in /media.
If you are interested, we can deliver our work to be repacked in the module. Telle me just how to proceed.

Hello,

in the next version of WB (2.7.0) we include a new phpmailer class wich allows to send mails via SMTP or phpmail. We also can switch then from plain text to html. This and a few more options we plan to include in the settings of WB.

The Code for the new phpmailer is already included in the next bugfix release ( WB 2.6.5 ) and can be used. The developper wich makes this class available for WB has already a version of massmail wich uses this new class and the ability of html mails.

So we have now two versions. So i would say, as you are interested in html mail and done already some work on it and we plan another solution we should combine the work. As WB 2.6.5 isn't official yet but we have it ready (and working since weeks on the addons repository) and it will (i hope) released in a few days, i would say PM me, and i send you the link for the inofficial version of WB and the changed new massmail modul. Maybe the new version does already what you want or need. If not, try to add your additions to the new version.

If you wann know more, pleas PM me.

This is great news!

Not only a new (better, can it be better? grin) version of WB but an MassMail option included.

Does this included MassMail have the same functionality as the separate MassMail module?

@o_nantes, welcome in our Bakery!

There will be no massmail option be included in the next WB version. Massmail stays as a modul as it is right now. The only thing what changes is how WB send mails. And all modules wich are working with sending mails (form, massmail ...) can use this additional options when they are adapted.

Matthias, i2Paq,

I am currently thinking about updating the massmail module to work with all the WB versions (WB <= 2.6.4 does not include the new wbmailer class, WB >= 2.6.5 hopefully will include this class).

Beyond the required checks, I plan to add some additional configurations into the settings and may add some more sanity checks (like is email address formal valid...).

So, massmail will stay as a module which needs to be installed and configured by the user.

Hey,
I've modified part of the code of the massmail module to work with the form module.
The idea is that a user can to want that him visitors make a registry in him site. Some way this user will want to send an email to all the visitors registred in him system.

Well, so i modified the module (and added de mm_utils.php functions file) to use the fields in a form that have the name like email (email, mail, E-mail, user-mail, etc). Thus a user can select the fields that he want to use, select the e-mails that he want to send the messages to, and select if he want that that message will be showed in the page (view) or not.

Well, if the author are interested in the code, send me a mail (I think that i can't to post a zip file here, I'm right?) to charlesschaefer [at/] gmail [dot/] com

Thanks by the module, it helped my client and, indirectly, me too.

P.S. Sorry by my (poor) english.

Does that mean it will be possible to use options and send massmails like this?:
Dear {user},
you can login on  {url} with the following :
name: {user}
pw: {password}
etc...

because that would be great!

cheers, palle

@palle: The newly implemented phpmailer class has no direct impact on the massmail module. But it makes sending emails more easy (including file uploads, SMTP, HTML ...).

I am currently updating the massmail module to make use of the phpmailer class. In addition I´ve updated the massmail module to allow the use of an WYSIWYG Editor.

However, your proposal sounds very usefull, so I may include this option as well.

Hello All!

Great module.

Can anyone tell me what it takes to make it able to mail html? I added
Code:
$add_mail_headers = "Content-type: text/html;\r\n";
into save.php just before the others, and now I am able to type in raw html. This works partially, but I get From:-header just before the "real" email.

Also quotemarks are relpaced with /// wich makes it necsessary to remember not to use quotes.

I use Xinha editor and would like to put it onto the textarea defined in modify.html. What does it take? Can I just rename the textarea (also correspondingly in the save/add/whatever php that takes input from this field.

Hints in the right direction will be greatly appreciated and I will share my modifications if others want to do the same.

Cheers!

Hello,

if you are using WB v2.6.5 you could switch over to the new implemented mailer class which is able to send HTML emails. So are you using WB v2.6.5?

Glad to hear that Text/HTML and the editor will be an option on the next version, thanks for all the hard work guys!!  I'm planning on putting this module to use very soon, so that will be great!

Please note that the default English message has poor grammar and also reads rather harshly.

You get this mail, because you are a registered user of my Web page. If you want to unsubscribe send a mail to me@example.com with the word unsubscribe.

Something like this would be more polite:

You have received this email because you are a registered user at my web site, example.com.
If you wish to have your membership removed, please send an email to me@example.com and include the word "unsubscribe" in the Subject line.  Your membership will be removed as soon as possible.
Some ideas (some have been mentioned) that appeal to me are:

Simple:
- edit the To/From and the BCC fields
- send to multiple groups - would need add and clear buttons or something like that

More advanced:
- email without being a member of the site
- self-subscribe/unsubscribe request - optionally, automatically
- save templates/emails/footers/headers
- pre-set a time to automaticly send the email
- let individual users set Text or HTML

When will the HTML massmailing facility be available to the public?

@smartview
Updating the massmail module to use the WBmailer class implemented in v2.6.5 is a matter of about 5 lines PHP code. If you are using WebsiteBaker v2.6.5 (or higher) you could play around with the file attached to this thread to get an impression of how things could be achieved. In addition check out the examples from the developer website of the PHPMailer class.

But all the other features requestes here needs some more time. In general I am thinking off writing the massmail module from scratch to incorporate features of a newsmailer script:
  • sign in / out for new mails from frontend / backend
  • implement WYSIWYG editor
  • easier to use group handling
  • attachment handling similar to the one used in the forum for posting threads (Additional Options).
  • possibility to define some fields (e.g. Dear {NAME})

Implementing all that features into the massmail module would require much more time than writting a new newsmailer module. Will check out some free newsmailer scripts this weekend and check what could be achieved by when.

Hello,

smartview asked if I could provide the modified save.php for the massmail module to make use of the newly implemented WBmailer class of WB v2.6.5.

How to use it:
  • download the attached file and rename it into save.php
  • modify line 80 according your needs (put your domain URL)
  • rename the original massmail save.php file on your server into save.php.org
  • upload the new save.php to your server and give it a try

Please note:
The new save.php file does only work for WB v2.6.5 or higher as it requires the new class class.wbmailer.php introduced with WB v2.6.5. If something does not work, try to enable SMTP in the config.php file in the root of WB. If you still run into problems, just delete the new save.php and rename the old one back to save.php.

Hi,

I would like to use the Massmail Module to send newsletters to customers.
The problem is that there are quite a lot of customers (> 1000).

I already tried several other newsletter scripts some time ago and all of them seemed to have problems with such a large amount of recipients.
The most common problem was a timeout (I think PHP makes a timeout after 30 seconds).

So my question is:
Can I use the Mass Mail Module to send mails to more than 1000 recipients?
Will it work?

Hello,

most likely you will run into similar problems.
Check the web for limitations of the PHPMailer class and the mail() function of PHP.
I think there are no experiences with > 1000 mails. One question. Do you have 1000 registered users or do you simply want to send 1000 emails  smiley
