Introducing to you, F.A.Q. Baker, the FAQ Module  Cheesy

Here's a little something for you until I've finished the Calendar.

Download v1.0

As far as I've tested it, it works on 2.3.x of WB, and should do on 2.2.x. I'd appreciate any feedback you have on this  cheesy

I must admit, I can't take full credit for this either - it was derived from the Bookmarks module, but it's here for anyone to use Wink

Thanks  Smiley

Hi and thank you for this module. I'd like to make a request if I may. I am trying to set up my site in such a way that each category can have its own FAQ, Manual, Links and so on. Right now it seems like all the FAQ come out on one page? If this isn't just my bungling and you continue to expand this script I'd like to do what I describe below ....

Here is my ongoing (and currently horrible) effort at hacking up the template.

http://stormvisions.com if you go to Software/Moho you will see the FAQ includes the PSP FAQ as well -I also have some previous test entries hanging around I can't delete.  I'd also like to be able to have just the list of FAQ on the page as I think it'll get pretty long.

What I hoped to do is something like

Software
+Moho
  -Tutorials
  -FAQ
  -Beginner Guide (manual)
  -Links
  -Downloads

+PSP
  -Tutorials
  -FAQ
  -Beginner Guide (manual)
  -Links
  -Downloads

+3DGS
  -Tutorials
  -FAQ
  -Beginner Guide (manual)
  -Links
  -Downloads

+View All (show all of them here)
  -Tutorials
  -FAQ
  -Beginner Guides
  -Links
  -Downloads

I appreciate all you guys contributioning this stuff. I'll keep on hacking away as best I can. Smiley

Hi Craig. I have a minor request for this FAQ mod. Would it be possible to assign a unique number to each item like Microsoft does in thier knowledge base? In this case the page is Site FAQ I'd like to assign a 2 char prefix and a sequential number so the first article might be SH0001 where for the PSP section I might make prefix PS and faq start with PS0001.

This benefits ssites with lots of FAQ or tips so when people send feedback about a FAQ or discuss it on the forum they can refer to an ID ie "I found an error in faq PS9631 ..." or "concerning your tip number MH5263..."

Hello,

and if you find another version of this modul it is out of date. It is developped for earlier versions of WB and i'm pretty shure it doesn't work with WB 2.6.4. We first have to rewrite it for working with the actual version of WB.

You can use the news module for a FAQ section perfectly.

Hello,

done a little bit work on this modul or better say i rewrote it completely. But i like the result. Hope you like it too.

Changelog:
+ Added Questions and answers are searchable now
+ Added multilanguage support
+ Added german language file
+ Fixed all Copyright notices
+ Fixed old entries in the info.php
+ Fixed install script now supports MySql5 strict mode
+ Fixed categories with no names couldn't be stored anymore
+ Changed the whole layout of the Modify windows
+ Changed Minor changes in the view.php for header and footer

As there are a database changes ( had to add page_id fields for the search ) an update of existing versions is not possible yet. Have to write an update script.

Have fun

Matthias

Edit:

Have fun with FAQ!

I have installed and tested the updated FAQ module, and it was a pleasure to work with. A clean simple interface and structure. Certainly you have to adapt it to your own design, but thats normal with every module.

Bug: I have found only one bug. When you move questions up or down inside a category, the first or last element can be "moved" outside the actual category. Not visually, but the position counter is updated internally so that the position get out of sync.

Wishlist: Be able to set default ordering. In some installations, the news factor of a FAQ may be higher, and the last added question should be on top, not on the bottom.

I plan to use the FAQ system as a documentation pool. In the old days, while waiting for the computer to get ready processing, we had time to read real documentation and get some knowledge. But now, as novices in many areas, we need information in a hurry for problem solving. A decent FAQ is the solution.

Thanks to Matthias and the "fans" for the excellent work.

It appears that there is a remaining bug concerning the way utf8 character are stored in the database and displayed in the admin interface...

Do you think you could fix this last but not least bug ?

I need some help with the FAQ module.  Here is the scenario I'm attempting:

Frequently Asked Questions Page
> Category 1
>>Question 1
>>Question 2
>Category 2
>>Question 1
>>Question 2

Some OTHER Page
>Category 2
>>Question 1
>>Question 2

Yet ANOTHER Page
>Category 1
>>Question 1
>>Question 2

In other words, I need a comprehensive FAQ page, as it is now, and the ability to access just ONE of the categories (with the questions and answers) on another page of the site.  Of course I could re-do the FAQ on those pages, but I'd prefer to update one time, in one location -- then have the questions/answers update everywhere!

Can anyone help me??

Thanks!!!!

You'll need to write some script like the "display news anywhere" to pull the data of the DB and display it ...

cheers

Do you (or anyone else) know what sort of modifications need to be made to that script so that it would handle this?  (I'm not really a PHP programmer -- I just feel my way in the dark, and sometimes get lucky!)

On another note, is anyone here "for hire" on a freelance basis to make modifications to website baker and the modules?  I could use a little help!

Thanks,
Darren

Does anyone here know how I can accomplish this?  I'm not a programmer -- so if anyone can offer a snippet or two that will accomplish this, it would be VERY much appreciated!!!

Hello,

you can use the agreggator module as parent page and create as much child pages you have categories:

Aggregator
  - Category A (FAQ page)
  - Category B (FAQ page)
  - Category C (FAQ page)

Then you could set-up Aggregator in a way only to show the Category names and the links.
All other solutions would require coding.
