Hi,

I have recently moved a site to a new host which uses cpanel hosting and am experiencing a strange problem which I assume is with sessions.

The frontend site works fine by itself. The admin system works fine by itself as well - you can log in and perform all tasks.

The problem only occurs when you try to view both in the same browser. If I log in to make a change to a page, save the change, and then refresh the frontend site to check the change, when I come back to the admin system and try to do anything it asks me to log in again.

If I open the frontend site in another browser (so it's in IE and the admin is open in Firefox) I can make as many changes as I like in Firefox, and refresh IE to check them without it logging me out.

This is what leads me to believe it's a cookie/session problem, however it worked on the old host so I'm not sure where to look - if anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

Both hosts use PHP 5.2.17 and MySQL 5. The backend advanced settings have Login and Smart Login both set to NO, although I've tried them with YES in different combinations.

If anyone can suggest where to look and maybe how to trace this I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks.

Hi,

Just a quick update, after some further testing....

The only page which seems to kill the session is the home page. If you refresh any other page on the site, the admin login remains active.

I've also replaced the template with a blank file (no HTML or content) and loading the home page still kills the session, which rules out something in the template or content (including a droplet) as the cause.

SO, it would seem that the session is being destroyed or recreated when you reload the home page only, and that this must come from the core system, somewhere.

Does anyone have any ideas why?

Thanks.

Smart login has nothing to do with it, it's probably the security thingy that causes problems. Do you use the latest WB?

I suggest to upgrade tot the latest 2.8.2 version. The bugs and problems with earlier security mechanisms are gone, and you can control it through some settings in the backend.
