Author Topic: Moving Legacy Version to a New Server  (Read 212 times)

Hello,

I may have a uniquely specialized problem. I am trying to move a WB site to a new server, but the existing site is uses a previous, and I think CUSTOMIZED version of WB [ v 2.6.7 ] and it has a different structure than the current version [ v. 2.8.2 ]

So when following the moving from server A to B directions. [ http://www.websitebaker2.org/topics/moving-from-server-a-to-b.php ] I can get the new blank 2.8.2 install working, but when I FTP the old file structure to the server or the try to put back up either the saved or old config.php file, the site comes apart...  Also trying to bring up the saved database file (saved from within WB, not PHPAdmin - the old host does not permit access, I have a .sql backup file ) the import fails as well. Typically trying to create tables, also breaking the site.

I fear that the two versions of the sites are incompatible, and I ( tech aware web and graphic designer, but NOT a PHP expert) have probably hit my tech level. Note that my client has been evicted from complementary hosting and needs to migrate to his own hosting.

Yes, I'd probably prefer to rebuild with the current version of WB, but If I could get the legacy version up and running, and upgrade later, that's perfectly fine. Client is becoming antsy.

Any ideas?
