Show News items max x times

I'm using news module but there are some news that only should be seen some specified times.
I've made my own news listing block with type code block so it works fine. I was just wondering if someone has been on a news article before and got the direct url for it but the article is set as inactive, person sees just the text "Sorry, no active content to display".

Is it possible to make it automatically redirect to main news page from inactive articles?

I've already tried it with just code block reading the article from database and checking active, published_when and published_until columns but is there any easier way?
