Greetings!

I have a site running Ver 2.6.4 (yes I realize it is unsupported) which just recently (never happened before) site visitors are getting an error message sporadically:

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host 'mysql.secureserver. net' (2) in ******/web/framework/class.database.php on line 61
Unknown MySQL server host 'mysql.secureserver. net' (2)

This site worked fine the last several years then all of a sudden ... problems. Hosting is GoDaddy and they have checked and found nothing from their end stating they suspect the script is keeping the database open past the point it is being used causing the error. I have a couple dozen other installs on GoDaddy servers with no problems.

I am trying to avoid having to upgrade the site ......so I thought I would check to see if you anyone had any ideas.

Thanks as always....

Scott

The error message is not the message you will get when there are too many connections to the server.
It really is a message that says (the name) of the server is not existing (at time of the errormessage).

Researching the problem shows Godaddy has a lot of mySql servers (no surprise) and the use some kind of local DNS to determine what server "mysql.secureserver. ..." actually should be.
It seems to me that is failing at the time you see this error.

About upgrading..

I would advise to upgrade anyway, even though I do not believe it is going to solve your database connection problem.

Since there is only an experimental upgrade script for 2.6.x to 2.6.7 (first upgrade step), I would advise to do your upgrade using a backup copy on a local XAMP installation. After all the steps (2.6.4 > 2.6.7 > 2.7.0 > 2.8.2) are completed, and everything is working locally you should be able to move your local copy back to your live server.

Rudd;

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply let alone do some research. I will just keep bugging GoDaddy Support and see where that gets me!

Again...thanks for your time.
