Rip Wordpress plugins ?

We all want to have stuff like imagecrop, a newslettermodule that does not suck etc
There are hundreds if not thousands of wordpress plugins... How hard would it be to rip em and turn em into wb plugins?
I haven't tried it yet but I would like to try and most of all, I would like you all to try... Or at least think about it
Any thought, ideas or experiences here?
