It seems that the login redirect function doesn't work. When I access a member page without being logged in, a login screen appears (http://www.MY-DOMAIN.NL/account/login.php). After logging in I get access, but I am transferred to the homepage instead of the page I tried to log in to.

For example, the URL of the member page is http://www.MY-DOMAIN.NL/pages/downloads.php
When I go to that page I got redirected to /account/login.php?redirect=http://www.MY-DOMAIN.NL/pages/downloads.php and I see a login form. After logging in I got redirected to the homepage, instead of to http://www.MY-DOMAIN.NL/pages/downloads.php

I also tried to find where the text messages are stored. For example the page says "Please enter your loginname and password below". But my site is Dutch and I cannot find this line anywhere, so I cannot translate. Where is it? I even looked for parts of it, as it is probably composed from different pieces of text, but I didn't succeed. Can anyone help me out?

I cannot replicate the "not redirecting" issue.
What version are you using?

The text is based on the website-language. If your website (and the pages) is set to Dutch, you should see the login screen in Dutch. The texts are found in the language directory on your server.

That's where I looked of course, but I couldn't find it in the main language file, and also not in other files.

Both site and pages are set to Dutch, but the messages appear in English.

I have the same problem. A solution would be great, because it worked with 2.8.1.
