News v3.5 page does not show up on frontend

I installed WB Version 2.8.1 Revision 1287 more than a year ago and now I would like to use News 3.5
When I open that page only a blank page will show up.  Sourcecode does not show a single ccharacter.

Everything is intalled on a Linux Server. File permissions are set to 777 in the Option page.


Than I did exactly the same for further testing on my local windows Xampp installation and there it works immediately.
It looks for me as if it is something with file permissions but I can not find the mistake?

Does anybody have got a clue for me what is wrong?

It would be best to start with upgrading to the latest stable WB version, and take it from there. Your problem might well be gone after upgrading.

Hi,

A blank page sounds for me as an PHP version issue. Are you sure that on your Linux server runs PHP 5.2.x or newer?

Thank you for you tips. I checked that php version but it is "PHP Version 5.2.6".
I will upgrade now to WB 2.8.2 but I am not sure if that will solve the problem as the same version which is on that live server works on my local xampp without that behaivor.

Do you have any other idea about that?
I tried on top of view.php in news modul an echo but that file is not even called.
Is there an other file where I could check via var_dump() or echo where it stops to work?

I have done that upgrade to 2.8.2 buit this problem still exists.
News is now   v3.5.5
If I click to open that news page in frontend it does still show only white page and not a single character.
In addition I  checked if that call to that news page reaches at least index.php in root directory but it did not.

Hi,

it also depends on the configuration of your server. Maybe some requirements do not match, e.g. your hoster deactivated some PHP functions which do work on your local XAMPP.
Check it with the Check-WB Tool.

very good job and thank you for you help. That check-wb tool revealed the problem. It was safe_mode.
It has to be off but was on.  News works now correctly.
