Dear WebsiteBaker friends,

we need your help. We are preparing a move to a new server which will then incorporate all our online services. With this we have also planned to move the forum to a new script. We have made a preselection of 3 scripts. However, we are at the moment not sure which one to select:

1) phpBB3
2) myBB
3) SMF2

All three have their advantages and disatvantages. One thing that all three have in common is the ability to migrate a SMF1 forum.

We hoped that you would help us with the decision by using this poll. The poll will be active until the 30. of June. Please vote!

cheers

It's not so easy choice. SMF2 w/o optimalization likes to eat resources.
But updating from 1.1 to 2 should leave all data consistent. Migrations between BBS platforms always lead to some problems with data consistency, where for example user PM's vanished, were messed and so on.
myBB was a bit lighter and faster, but is it still updated ?

I'd consider placing vanilla bb instead of phpbb.
Otherwise there's not really any sensible choice than SMF2.

@Klaus
Did the Migration test show any Problems ?

It is easier to change the specification to fit the program than vice versa.

Nothing unsolvable, for phpBB3 I just skipped a compatibility step in the test scenario, since I know that it needs to be done from a previous testconversion. This step is well documented in the phpBB Convertor Forum.

MyBB converion is dead slow though grin but that again is no showstopper.

@crnogorac081: I wouldn't store the PMs here in the Forum. One of the reasons for the move is that the current server hardware is "old" has has failed already a couple of times.

cheers

If I had to choose I'd say SMF2.
But VBulletin would also be nice...
