With regards to scolding...I find that folks are very, very touchy when they have ownership or administer any webspace/domain, board etc. - and doubly so when anything is asked which may request that they exceed their desired depth - AND, that it is also irrelevant how politely any such request may be made from what I have seen.

One good example in my travels has been picky-fussiness about little cute trinkets and such being used in posts; this just makes me snicker...heavy handedness about such things when embellishments ARE right in the reply forms at most forums ? Ach, rules and rules and rules - some folks just need to LIGHTEN UP !!!

Ah! I guess you're referring to my comment as a moderator about keeping your posts clean of moving objects, all kinds of colors, font decorations and smilies, that serve no purpose, and make your post difficult to read and understand? Well, if that's scolding or heavy handedness, so be it. From my point of view it's just a little bit of guidance to the use of this forum.

Since I work as a tech but have ZERO desire to branch off into coding - or to spend days on end re-doing stuff that will not work, I tend to ask ALOT of questions too...which also puts folks on edge from what I've noticed.

It could be if people try to understand you, and respond to you, but notice you're not willing to try WB yourself. It's not commercial software we're talking about here. You don't have to be afraid you loose money if the software doesn't meet your needs. Yes, you may spend time. But you don't want that, and prefer others spending time on you. Does that feel right?

Anyways - when I get slapped around or scolded or whatever (and answers no longer seem to be forthcoming) - my response is simply to make a mental note that help is limited in regards to (whatever) and then move on.

And we may take a mental note that you're a guy who keeps on asking questions (and thus asking time and effort from others) without putting any effort in himself.

This quest of mine has gone on for quite a while now - and I've wasted LOTS of time/life on various solutions which turned out to have serious weaknesses or that were poor fits despite initial impressions;

Yes, I'm afraid most of us are all too familiar with that. But such is life when you're in this business.

I spent LOTS of time there (read ALL 6 or more pages of those scripts & visited their sites too) and at alternate script-listing sites to see if what I sought was already existing, and did not find anything remotely resembling my example local or hosted variations.

I also searched extensively for hosted 'note-taking' apps/scripts.

Problem is - there isn't (yet ?) even a category for 'online snippet storage' for one's own hosting - maybe it will appear though and I'd sure enjoy THAT !

Could you give us a few examples of what kind of "snippets" you're actually talking about? Because I really don't know what could not be done with existing software. It must be quite special what you're after...

I work in several places, and have different PCs too - and web access any of those places.
2)
I also have amassed a collection of TXT files containing everything from alakazam to soup to nuts to zebras numbering in the hundreds or maybe more by now...and growing daily.
They are hard to find - get forgotten here or there - and do not span my locations.

Hence I would like to emplace such info, snippet by snippet - into my own hosted space - in a manner which can be easily navigated anytime at all from anyplace I happen to be right then.

My examples of either a protected/private forum/board and/or Luminotes are the best possible solutions I've yet found and I have been searching and working on the idea of this for years now.

I just visited there again and also searched their misc. area.
Trouble is-> that site is a promo/spam collection point for all sorts of garbage as well as services which are trying to attract paying users.
Even setting their site to display 'free' only scripts neither removes the spammy ones nor weeds out those who are selling that happen to offer some kind of 'free trial'. Woof.
But thanks for reminding me of it (I think I shall avoid that site from now on though...)

So it's just texts you want to save in an organized way? You could do that with WB or probably any CMS or blog software. Or have a look at Knowledge Base or Article scripts, like on http://www.hotscripts.com/category/php/scripts-programs/faq-knowledgebase/

Yes, Hotscripts has both free open source software, and commercial software. And also online services. It doesn't have any quality control, so there's lot of garbage too. BUT, also high qulaity software. It is simply the most complete repository, and if a script exists, you'll probably find it there.

Actually you can go through the listings rather fast. Don't read the info on the Hotscripts site for each item, but directly click on Visit Publisher for each item on a page. I always open all publisher sites with right mouse click in a new tab. Then you have several dozens of sites open, each in a different tab. Then I visit all of them, tab by tab, closing the ones that I see within a few seconds it's garbage. Mostly I end up withonly  a few sites worth checking out per listing page. Then I do the next listing page, opening all the sites and sifting through them. That way I can scan a complete directory within 10 to 30 minutes orso.
