Does WB have a notion of content types?  like drupal or expression engine, or I think wordpress 3, or ... pretty much any CMS I've ever worked with?

The type dropdown under Add Form has WYSIWYG and a few module driven things I'm not sure what they are.  Basicallly I need to define the user's input by presenting them with custom fields.  Say like
title
body
tease
image
link

I don't see a straightforward way to do that - does it require writing a module?

afro  <-- just had to throw that in

That's why I ask - under Pages Administration there's "Page Type Concept" but when you create a new page and select any type, it creates a page with one field in it of that type.  So seems like those should be called Section Types.  I.e. if you want additional fields you have to then add sections of the desired type(s).  This is very odd to me.  You shouldn't have to use a module to accomplish this?  Or do you?  For example I found a news blog module where you create a page of type News, then click an Add button while to add posts to that page.  So that content is not part of the tree, it's sort of governed by that particular section/module.

Is there something about this I'm supposed to like?  I just feel like I must be missing something.

A new page has to have at least 1 section. So the "page type" you choose when creating a new page, is strictly speaking a page with that particular section type. You can also add new sections to any page.

That's correct. The news module is the content type you see in the page tree, not all individual news items. You can administer those from within the News module. I would say that is pretty standard  smiley

Nope. You have modules, which is not exactly the same.

One of the shortcomings of WB is exactly this. You cannot create custom content types like you describe. Yes, you sould create a module for that. There are several modules that could be reworked, but you need to be able to code. The news module would be a pretty good starting point. It does what you need, but without the image and link fields. There are derivates of the news module that do those things I believe, so have a look here: http://www.websitebakers.com/
Especially look at http://www.websitebakers.com/pages/modules/listings/section-pages/multipartpage.php that has an option to define a few custom fields and layouts.
