Author Topic: See who is working in the Administration Backend  (Read 414 times)

I know this might sound like an odd (big brother) idea, but I was wondering if it is possible to know if a user is working in the backend (Admin) of a website that you are the administrator of?

The reason for this request is, I often work on a site at the same time as my users, and every so often I will edit and Save a page that they had just changed, and so their work is lost with my saving of the page.

I currently try to tell users to let me know when they will NOT be doing updates, so I can do my work, but that gets complicated and is a clunky workflow.

I'm interested in any ideas here.

Thanks!

I appreciate the link, and did take a look, but it looks a little too much like uncharted waters for me.  I thought this might be a more common need.  Guess I'll continue to do things as I have been. undecided

It's not a trust issue.  I trust Darkviper.  It's that it is not something that a lot of users have tested in a lot of developments, and Darkviper even states "use at own risk", so I am a bit weary to try it on a client's live site.  I will have to try it out in a test site soon.  I do appreciate you making me aware of this.

I wrote this patch some time before i joined the dev-team.  That's why the warning.
But to be on secure side, wait a couple of days please.
In the next release this patch will be part of the core.

But you are not completely wrong to be careful.
The patch itself is clean and works well on productive sites of my customers. Unfortunately 'old' core files, which include the patch, are buggy. So some of it was recoded during the last months.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this "insider" info.  I will gladly wait.  Cheers!
