How to migrate from 2.5.2 to 2.6.x
«
on:
November 26, 2005, 09:47:29 PM »
Hi!
I am currently setting up a site with WB 2.5.2 since it is more stable.
I also have a test install of 2.6.0-test2.
There are a few errors which I hope to file as tickets on Monday (when being on a PC with a braodband
).
OK, so will there be some sort of migration script 2.5.2 -> 2.6.0 ?
I have seen that the config-file set up has mainly been put into the database and some other changes.
If you plan to release such a script it would be helpful to have it right now sice it would ease up testing 2.6.0
Thanks and keep on with the delicous baking

The 2.5.2 to 2.6.0 stable upgrade script is being worked on and will be releases in a day or so.

Hey guys,
Any new ETA on this? Been waiting since release for this script. Some of us really don't want to start out with a new install just to upgrade.

Yeah, I know.
It's just that I don't have time at the moment. Hopefully Ryan can tackle this shortly.

Hi guys,
Since Sunday afternoon I've been getting a little sick, and I went to the doctors on Monday arvo and said I've got some bacterial infection or something, so they gave me some drugs to help me get better.
At the moment I feel about 70-80% better, but still not that 100%, so I can't really spend enough time in front of my comp to get the upgrade done.
I will let you all know when I'm healthy enough to work on it.
Technically speaking, the work Stefan has done so far will do majority of the upgrading - the only things you might need to do is edit the comments page template (in news settings) of the news mod, etc.

Yes, I am starting to wonder why
existing
users aren't so important.

@bastya_elvtars: existing users are important - more important that new ones, but nothing is more important than our health, and our jobs. I have recovered mostly, and in the last few days have been helping my dad build our new offices. Right now I should be working on his new mail server, but I have to work on 2.6.1 for the security patch first (top priority). I will try my hardest to get free time this week to work on the upgrade.

I know of the importance, and I also know that you are doing this for fun - but we would like to get some of this 'fun'.
I am really not that impatient, and the upgrade is not that important for me at all - just curious.

I am not really interested in the update script.. but I was wondering.. Could it be an idea to put in the "advanced" changelog .. what has changed on the database level (for now and future releases)?
While upgrading a WB it could make all the difference for deciding what to do (instead of going through save.php and all to see what has changed). It would be a nice option when upgrading, installing the database WITHOUT dropping the resident data...(making another if statement with installing in install/save.php.. or not?)...

I'm working with 2.6 on my test server - clean install - and can't get it to recognize new template folders. I suppose I could use the existing folders and dump my own content in as a replacement but that's not too cool.

Well, there's good news and bad news. I have started to do some work, based off Stefan preliminary stuff (which I must say is a big time saver!), however, I will have to wait until tomorrow to finish it and fully test it (in a production situation). Keep your eyes open in the next 24 hours guys!

Well, I have spent a good few hours tweaking and testing, so now it is up to you guys to do some final testing before it is official!
I have attached a TEST ONLY version of what I will release this Friday (officially).
Please test as much as possible, and report incidents back here.
If there are any probs, I will fix them on Friday before I release stable.
If you have found a bug, and are capable of fixing it, please supply your fix.
Lastly, please try not to use this on any production systems, and back up data regardless!
Enjoy!
