I would like to use this file download script for a project. I have subcontractors who need to get clients reports in .pdf format. They want to be able to send the name of the file in an email (not including the .pdf extension) and then the client will go to their site and enter in that file name in a simple one text field form and then submits it. If the file exists its viewed, if not they get the form again with a messgae to try again.
can anyone figure a way to do that, or can I pay someone to do it?
I figure this download script is an easy way for the subcontractors to upload and manage their files so all I really probably need is the client (end user) part that checks for the file.
all in website baker of course. would like it as a module probably so I can install it on a few sites.would also like a button on the downloads page to email someone the name of the file. I almost have that figured out thought, but someone here could probably do it better.
if its not to costly, (less that $50) I would be glad to post the soluton for others to use too.
I need this yesterday so if your good, either pm me or post a response.

A nice idea for one of your subcontractors, but I don't have much time at the moment do analyse this and do further work on the download module (especially for one partical website/person)....
Module development isn't that hard. I with my minor knowlegde of PHP have also developed several module and all this has done just by copy, pasting PHP and adjusting some minor stuff to get this stuff working. If I am correct you want a combination of the following modules for this:
Download Gallery
Upload module
Form Module
Mailing list module
Or am I thinking to difficult for your solution?

no thats about it, but making one module simple for them to use will be way too much time, Ill just use a 3rd party upload/download script. will be a lot faster in development for me, thanks...

Here's a mod to this that allows you to place a new item at the top of the list. Usefull if you're doing something like a meeting minutes archive where you're always adding to the top of the list.

I just tried to install the orbiteleven modified version and got the following error:
Warning: main(/home/penslsc/public_html/temp/unzip/info.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/penslsc/public_html/admin/modules/install.php on line 60
Fatal error: main(): Failed opening required '/home/penslsc/public_html/temp/unzip/info.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/penslsc/public_html/admin/modules/install.php on line 60
Can anyone tell me what I did wrong or is there something wrong with the module?

The way this module is zipped is wrong. Orbiteleven Zipped the folder and not the files, so the info.php is not in the root and couldn't be found. Also the images are not in the images folder and the languages are not in the languages folder. Have sorted this and you find attached o hopely installable version. It's not tested, so if you have problems, ask orbiteleven.

Hi,
i have a problem with DL-Gallery.
if i try upload 'Plugins for IrfanView (5MB) as plugin.rar',
(the same with 'plugin.zip')
i have this result:
Size: 82 Bytes
When i delete this entry, i have for a very short time a error-message but i can't read.
the same was in version 1.0 and now in 1.3
other (smaller) upload's are okay
greetings

Seems that your file is not uploaded correct. Did DL Gallery work with smaller files? Mean did you have only Problems with bigger files?

If php is used to upload files there are settings in php.ini wich determine the MAXIMUM size of an upload
And since apache is allso used (browserbased) there is a setting too wich determines the max uploadsize
My guess is you can upload files up to 2Mb or 4Mb. *default setting
If smaller bits work, and larger doesnt, look at
php.ini -> post_max_size
httpd.conf -> LimitRequestBody
The both of them determine how big a file could be when posting.

you are right

Hi all, i'm new and find WB-cms
FANTASTIC !
Q: would it be possible to design the pages in such a way that different users get a different Download list ?
Why ? Teacher - many pupils - they try cheating on eachothers files. I'd like some kind of protected download per user, per group.
Can it be done with th WB and Download module ?
Thanks for any advice in the design ,
Always look on the bright side of life !

Hello,
it is possible, but its only possible with different sections. It's not possible to have different wrights in one download gallery section.
First make different groups (teachers, scoolclass1 ... or whatever you like), then add users to this groups.
Then make a page with different download gallerys sections and set the sections wich are not public to private and add to the different sections the group you want to have the permissions.
Enable login at admin interface and look for a template with login option or create a template with login option.
What does this effect. Public sections see everyone. Private section is only shown when a user is logged in. A looged in User only see the sections from the group he is in.
Hope this helps

Hello,
Many thanks for the hints. At first they were somewhat blurry to me because I'm a beginner, but it begins to sound great !
If I understand it, I'll do this :
make a page that is only accessible by a group
make sections (on that page) that are separatly accessible by an individual ?
at some login-page (ie home page) they can
view
the whole page as a group and
access
the section as an individual ?
This would be GREAT !
Many Tnx to you !

Hello,
you only can give a section the acessibilty of a group. You nowhere can give acessibilitys to an individual user. So if you wanna have that only one user should see a section you have to make first a group only for this user and then add this user to this group. Hope you understand what i mean, my english is not the very best.
The easiest way is to create for each group. So the users see then only the pages wich hve the wrights from the group in wich they are.
If you wanna have on one page different blocks with different wrights (wich is also possible) you have to do a few steps more
Enable in admin settings - advanced options the "Section blocks"
Add to the info.php from your template the infos about your additional blocks
Code:
$block[2]="only teachers";
$block[3]="only grandmas";
Then add to the index.php of your template where the blocks should be shown
Code:
<?php page_content
(
2
);
?>
<?php page_content
(
3
);
?>
If you now create a new page or a new section on a page you have a dropdown list with all your blocks. This different blocks you then can set to privat and add groups to them.
What is f.e. the result:
You have one page and the login of a user decides wich parts he see from this side.
first section is public = everyone can see it
second section is block2 and privat with permissions to group1 = only group1 can see this when they logged in.
third section is block3 and privat with permissions to group2 = only group2 can see this when they logged in.
Hope this helps

Hi Matthias ,
Tnx again for the help. Indeed, I couldn't give permissions on user level. I was stuck there. What I then had in mind was creating pages per user , thus per groups that own 1 user each ! That would be around 130 pages...but why not . . it is a db.
The pupils at school are not the easiest kind, you know. When they can cheat they will cheat. (It's a school full of these kids. .) But hey , if I can teach 1 of them to do good , i'll go for it !
That's the reason why it should be tight in securety and accessability.
I have not learned about those blocks in WB yet, and i'll look into it.
Thinking of an alternative . . may i ask your opinion ?
Suppose I put some php code in a page / then the code goes to an external database (same server, same website-url) with user management and UPLOAD / DOWNLOAD facilities per user / then, come back to WB with the results (out of the php) / then paste them in a nice table or so. Suppose this is gonna be a lot of work ..
It's because I like WB that much that I want to try it in WB, which later on (next schoolyear) will display every task the kids will recieve from me. Their answers will go into a txt-processor and
they
load it up. I'll have the summertimes to work on that one, and on the facility to group the download for myself cause i'm not gonna open 130 pages one by one each and every schoolday !
I've seen on other threads that there is an upload in the making, but not as a finished module. If they combine the upload
and
the donwload in 1 module, this would make life easier for me.
Well, I have several ways now of thinking about the most smoothly solution for the up/dwn loads at user level. Gonna look into the blocks now and experiment with it. I want to know WB better then i do now.
Many TNX for all the advice, they really helped me getting on track !
Cheers, Wouter

I hope I've got the idea correct: you want to let users (students) download and upload files that only they can see.
Here's an idea - basically, its an extension of the user/group concept.
I know with groups, they have an id code. I assume users must too. Modify this module to store the uploader's user id with the file.
A bit of PHP should be able to filter on the user ID eg:
1. check if they are logged in
2. retrieves the user ID
3. retrieve the list of available files
4. iterate through the list of files
5. if the user-id = upload id, display the file, else continue
You might check for an admin id as well, so that you can make a file available to everyone. However, if they upload it again, only THEY can see the modified version.

Tnx for the suggestion
They have to be able to upload (one file at a time is good). That particular file should
not
be downoladable again by that user (cause it'll be a test or exam etc..) or by any other user for that matter.
I (or any teacher) should be able to download them all in a grouped fashion, or at least with their id aside it if they are downloadable all at once (or file after file).
File after file is useful for correction of their tests (word and excel so far).
Grouped per classroom is because I have to deliver them for . . school archives. (i'm pretty shure no one looks into it, but hey, those are the school rules..
Good idea of you to take the user-id along with the code block and link it to the file itself.
So it becomes:
- check logged in
- check user ID
- check file ID and file PATH (file itself should not go into the DB)
- check classroom ID (group ID ? )
- link all the above as a control / store / find / retrieve / reference system
- put that in an external db/table ?
Through php a script can give me the choice of downloading one or more files with the choice of grouping them. Yep, this should work, i think.
How far can WB-cms go to help me organise this and fetching the correct ID ' s ?
If I understood WB download, then it would allready be possible to make my files available to them for download (the assignment for their test or exam)
I'm not shure about modifying an existing module cause where goes the standard of things then ? Think it's better to use the cms as far as possible and only handle the extra's that are needed to reach the goal on an external basis.
Does it make sense ?

Think teacher, it is the group holder.
The student makes an assignment for a teacher
The student should only see the possibility to upload
The uploaded file goes to the teachers dir, with students name
The teacher should see only the teachers subdir of files (student files)
Known facts,
Each user has it's own user id
Each group has its own group id
Make students member of the group students (or different class groups ), teacher of the group teachers
Use the groupid to determine the actions per user
ie, if groupid is student, only upload.
Student could choose the teacher's dir where to upload (these would be subdirs named after the teacher (known in usertable) the uploaded file could be named after the student + datestamp. This could be used to set a prevention to reupload
if groupid is teacher, fetch username, show content of that dir.
Since wb logs lastlogintime it could be used to show new files.
This is what you need?

Oh man . . this sounds GREAT
Yes, it's what I need ! This way i can give them another page where to find the assignments that they have to download, fulfil and then upload in the way you described it.
The one thing hasn't got to do with the other ! Treat assignment as one way of handling and results upload as another. Great!
Thank you so much, all of you !
Have a nice one..

I uploaded a file to the download gallery. Then I attempted to change its description, but the save button doesn't work. I click on it, and nothing happens. This bug happens in both IE and firefox. Any ideas?
I have the same problem and I just downloaded the latest version. The bug is not fixed yet. Replacing the modify_file.php with the other version makes no difference.
