Hi there,

May be you know the feeling: you're searching a for mod and cannot find what you are looking for. Or you did find a mod but it's not exactly what you need and you don't know how to change it. Mod builders don't have always the time to help you out so...you're stucked.

So therefore I start this open thread:

  • what mods are you missing in WB and would you like to see?
  • which mods do you like but would you like to see some changes in order to make them perfect?

And what is the goal of this?

See if there are WB users who misses mods and/or would like to see some mods change.

If you think this is a unnecessary topic then please say so. Smiley If more users think this is topic is unnecessary then I will close this thread and will ask for deletion.

Hi,

I would like to see module standards (or guidelines) at first place. Those guidelines should include coding guidelines (do's, dont's must have, nice to have), multi lingual support, separation of PHP code HTML, CSS. The guidelines also needs to address the minimum security measures which needs to be implemented.

In a second step I would like to see a conversion of all WB core modules to those guidelines and the development of a new "Hello World" module, covering the main aspects of module development. This is to have a bigger and better baseline to start with.

In a third step I would like to see a list of modules worth while to get updated as you suggested.

Doc

P.S: One may want to visit Chios blog (German) for further infos: http://websitebaker.at/topics/websitebaker-module.html

Yups, agree with Doc

first standards, next living up to those within core modules
This is a must have!

Next maybe core function library wich handles all tidious - module - stuff like accesspage creation etc. to enlighten modules, thus simplifying module creation.

Okay. And after that, when you know, what will be next? Are you going to prog missing mods, or change existing ones? What's the goal?

Well, at this moment there's no single thread in which all those questions are combined together. When there's an inventory of all those wishes of users what they would like to see as a new mod/changes to exisiting mods, it's for the WB crew and mod developers more clear what the real need is for WB users. So when there's a need for a new mod that several users would like to see may be it can be interesting to make it a small commercial thing.

You can see it as the opposite of www.websitebakers.c om where you can check all the available mods. This thread could be a starting point of needed mods which don't exist but are needed. And if so may be we can help each other out paid or not.

Hope it's more clear now. smiley

So this is meant to be a "pool" for developers to get an idea of which addons may be worth being developed. Thanks for clearing. grin Maybe you'd like to add this info to the subject. wink

Pool what it's worth....

::for me it's a real good calendar mod!

-> we've only a few reworked calendars (based on old mods) and the bookings modul (that works real great - but it's no real pur calendar)

-> some used topics, eventcalendar or news with a month-sheet droplet

but this are all just temporary solutions - because there is no real "flexible" mod....i think!

::second is a contact/user mod (but this is in work - chio works on a userside facebookstyle mod and ralf(Berlin) works on a   admin side contact mod i think)

this goes the right way there is a lack, too (just user-stats mod for simple search & klick without options)

AMASP is full with mods/snippets - but i need only a few of them - and this are the mods who are really good maintained and worked out.....these are mostly very flexible in usage, too. so you could work out different things with the same mod and have a fast good fitting result!

In my opinion a very underestimated mod is the Catalog Module. With a very small modification you even can combine this mod with ImageFlow. (thnq to Ruud)

There are some disadvantages:

- this mod has to be used with Smarty
- the templates are from the Smarty Engine (still good editable though)
- there's an error when deleting categories
- no drag & drop between products/cats
- insert text and insert pictures cannot be done in 1 step

Besides these things you can do a lot with this mod. for instance; it's the only WB mod with multiple image creation in the readmore section.

What this mod needs is a fresh wind, a new version. I'm not a coder so I don't know if this mod can get rid of the Smarty thing. I assume this mod has to written all over again?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2nd thing I'm missing is extension of the search function. The last few years more and more customers asked me if there's a search function with more filters. Think of real estate websites where you can filter a lot.

Is there any way that this extension can be handled inside a search-mod? Where you can create filters so in the front-end visitors can filter their search.

Greetz,

Hello Boudi,
I often use Bakery as a Catalogue Module.
Also for real estates homepages.

It works great.
