I would like to create a user account that is unable to change preferences, or if that is not an option, to lock the password.  This account will be used by multiple people to view pages marked as Private.

My other options that I can think of are to make individual accounts for each union member (there are many), or manually edit a .htaccess file each time another admin makes a new "members only" page.  Neither of these options sound very good to me.

Is this possible?  Thanks.

hi,

go to access > groups and uncheck in the System Permissions the "settings" options for the user group you'd like to withdraw permissions from.

then make sure your user is a member of that group.

does that help ?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately that does not prevent a user of that group from being able to change the password or e-mail account.

I thought of another solution, although it isn't optimal: a cronjob via a PHP script that can reset to the default values.

Currently the only chance is to hack the core and manually disallow the preferences. If I remember correctly there should be a thread somewhere about that as well.

cheers

Hi,

the relevant core changes are shown in the German (first) or English (second) post.
http://www.websitebaker2.org/forum/index.php/topic,16604.msg109049.html#msg109049
http://www.websitebaker2.org/forum/index.php/topic,9610.0.html

This hides the preferences menu from all groups except the site admin group (file: /framework/class.admin.php).

Thanks everyone for the replies.  I searched these forums before asking my question, but I must have missed that thread.
