Hi guys,
I thought I would make sure I give good notice on changes that are being made to get things going properly after our server problems.
Also, I thought I would try and explain all changes in advance as to keep all community members informed.
Ok, so, there is now going to be a completely new structure, which will make use of subdomains to allow for better decentralisation (i.e. use of more than one server).
So, below is an outline of the proposed structure:
*
www.websitebaker.or g - Index of all places to go
* /2/ - WB2 Website
* /3/ - WB3 Website
* download.websitebak
er.org - File release system
* ftp.websitebaker.or
g - FRS file repository
* projects.websitebak
er.org - Projects repository (Trac)
* svn.websitebaker.or
g - Subversion repository
* forum.websitebaker.
org - WB forum
Basically everthing has been broken down in sections based on requirements:
- www, downloads & ftp requires high bandwidth and stability
- projects & svn requires a highly complex set of software (python, subversion, trac)
- forum requires high bandwidth and system resources
I plan to spread all subdomains across 3 servers as listed above, and will also have mirrors set up in as many countries as possible to balance the load for the first on the list (www, downloads, & ftp).
To achieve this use of subdomains across multiple servers, the DNS must be managed from one location.
Therefore, I have decided to use GoDaddy's "Total DNS control" service to manage DNS (since GoDaddy is the register), which means that any future changes any of the servers will not have an affect on changing the nameservers, but rather just limited to the specific subdomain.
The domains have to have the nameservers changed, which means downtime, so I thought I would just try and get things out of the way ASAP.
I plan to make these changes to the websitebaker.org domain either tomorrow (Saturday), or if not then on Sunday.
I will give at least 30 minutes notice of the exact change time, however I do not think anyone should notice any impacts (as the old DNS service will still be running).
Hopefully these changes do not cause anyone downtime. However, if you are experiencing problems accessing websitebaker.org, please try using websitebaker.com to access the website.
And lastly - I have had many people offering to do some hosting - thank-you very much! But please be patient, as I am still planning the "mirror program" to easily manage mirrors.
Stay tuned for a notice of when you can become a mirror, at which stage you can then contact me if you are interested in mirroring
