In the last few weeks I was looking for some specific functionality. However I was not able to find this in the existing modules ( http://www.websitebaker2.org/forum/index.php/topic,15697.msg101842.html). Therefore I decided to make some changes to the existing news module. Some advanced features. Please find the zip file attached. Before installing the new news module you have to de-install the old one (this will also remove the content - there is no upgrade script). The changes are as follow: (1) If not specifically ticked in the settings page - this module will behave as default. (2) In the settings page there are 3 new fields (2a) Post glue. If necessary you can put some html here. This html will be placed between 2 or more post loop items. For example: <div>item1</div><hr><div>item2</div> The HR element is the post glue text. (2b) Image: If enabled you will see an extra option in the Add post page. It allows you to upload an individual image for each post. This image will only be shown in the post loop on the front side if [POST_IMAGE] is set in the template via the Settings page. (2c) Link: If enabled you will see an extra option in the Add post page. It allows you to select a link which overrules the default behavior of the module. This link can be an external link as well as an internal WB link. What will happen is that the post item in the post loop does not link to the article itself but directly to a page. In case this option is used- there is no need to fill in the regular WYIWYG field. Except for the short one as this is used in the loop. Options as Groups and commenting are obviously not working as you overrule the default article function. This last feature makes the modules much more flexible and it could be used for a listing with content according to a template. Also you can just put a mix of content items. This last options has some effect on the search possibilities in WB. Search works fine but the search module expects to have an article for each item in the news module. Obviously that's not the case anymore. I did not had time to check on this/ see how to fixthis. Maybe in a next release. (also of if there is interest to use this module). Let me know if there are any issues/ questions. I will be more than happy to answer them. Paul

Hmm I am not sure how i can show it but i made a very quick (ugly) example. Take a look at: http://democms.atrissi.com/pages/blaat.phpYou will notice that each article has an image on the left and that the first article is linked to ccn in stead of the article itself. It is best to install the module yourself and play around with it. I think this new feature can give great possibilities for a developer.

Hi
from my point of view you should rename the module to "news advanced" that it is different to the delivered news module. Did you make the changes on the existing news module (from 2.8 package)? If yes please contact Luisehahne for he did some changes on that and you can implement your changes in the new one.

Ok i contacted Luisehahne and applied my changes to the latest version. Please find it attached.
I called it version 3.11. I don't think we should rename it. This is just an upgrade of functionality. This can be switch on or off in the settings menu. If there are no bugs - maybe it can be included in wb 2.8.1?

Great to see this development...
while you are on a roll...
- the comments option could have an email notification and verification like is done in the guestbook.

(2b) Image: If enabled you will see an extra option in the Add post page. It allows you to upload an individual image for each post. This image will only be shown in the post loop on the front side if [POST_IMAGE] is set in the template via the Settings page. I try to find documentation about News 3.5 in WSB. But I was not able to find it. I am interested in the feature cited (image); but it ws not possible to install this module (ZIP).

Well, this a rather old topic, but the need for a news module with image feature is still there. The version that can be found in this thread doesn't work in the current WB. I'm sure many users would like to be able to have an image option with news. Yes, I know you can place an image in the WYSIWYG fields, but that's not the goal.
What I personally would like to see as a minimum is an upload function in each news item where you can upload an image that will be automatically linked to that news item, and can be set to show in the short content at a certain fixed place (by tag and/or css), and with a certain fixed size. Just like you see in all those WordPress sites.
It would be nice if you can set some parameters in the backend, but this is the minimum situation. I cannot imagine this would be so hard to code for a decent coder, but somehow this feature is still not present in WB.

Topics can be an alternative, but can be overkill as well. Also it's interface breaks from the backend theme, and (although improved in the latest versions) is a rather complex and not intuitive enough for most client users. I'm looking forward to the News alternative Bug is talking about. It's always good when there is progress and development. That said, in the mean time stefek created a news module with image support for me. Works like a treat. He has donated it to the community. You can find it here: http://www.websitebaker2.org/forum/index.php/topic,21671.msg145777.html#msg145777

Why? I cannot see any problems. Do you have a screenshot?

Why? I cannot see any problems. Do you have a screenshot? No, not technically, but visually. It has visual elements that are unique to the module, and not in the style of the chosen backend. I just don't like it if my admin doesn't have the same visual design all over th eplace. Especially when it's a client site. It just doesn't look professional. I know that it can be changed, but that is extra work I don't like to do.

That is one time half àn hour changing the css.. I constantly change stuff i do not like/is not in line with my ideas of how the backend must look ( there are some very clever and skilled programmers here but graphically a lot is far below the acceptable).
On the other hand, i tried the topics module some time ago and i did not like all the extra's and the chaos it becomes for the client ( too many unneeded options) so i went on expanding the regular news..
Argos: i will send you some stuff as soon as i have the imagething implemented....

I was working on it a while ago but lately have been working on a more advanced version of baker (and adding some specific wishes which took up lots of time) just last week i picked up the newsmodule again.
I will either send you a copy too or put it here on the forum.
