Is anyone working on a business directory / yellow pages listing of any sort?  I've found the contactlist module which is a good start but not all the way there.  If there's one in development I'll dive in and help get it finished.  Otherwise I'm planning on taking the contactlist as a base and going from there.

There's modules out there for other cms's (ie: drupal).  Would it be easier to take one of those and convert it to WB perhaps?

Hi,

I saw that contactlist module use range(A-Z) for Letter link, so it is not handy for me as my language has more letters than english alphabet.. Do you have a link to that module for other cms. it could be a nice starting point to adapt it for WB Smiley

I'm working at a comprehensive contact management tool, which should be platform for contact informations, mailing, newsletter, yellow pages, geographic selected list (gps lon/lat), usage within shops a.s.o.. The first version (in german language) will come within october, please look ahead at dbContact.

Hi Luc,

As I said for contactlist before, it is not so handy for languages with more letters than english alphabet does, as I saw in code that links are made with range(A-Z) function..

For example in my languages, there are š,đ,č,ć,ž and few more so what about people whose name (or company's name) starts with those letters Smiley) Also I saw that german alphabet has 4 more letters than eglish does.. (ä, ö, ß, ü)

ok - I will look ahead and take care about this problem.

dbContact will be not static like the Contactlist, it will be an admin tool and you may access from any other addon and within any WYSIWYG section with Droplets a.s.o.

Cool!  I'm looking forward to seeing dbcontact.
My vision was for a dynamic directory as well, so it wouldn't be limited by alphabet or anything.
The structure would allow unlimited additions of "categories" and subcategories (ie: alphabet or directory headings)

I would love to see several levels of categories (at least 3, preferably 4 or 5).
ie: A --> Automotive --> Repairs
The adbaker module is a good starting example of this.

Cheers!

I just noticed another yellowpage module underway at http://yp.sub-web.de/

Maybe someone can translate?

This would be great, hovever, I got message from the author few months ago that that module will not be shared with the community (unless he changed his decision Smiley which would be great Smiley )

I am working on such a module, too, but it's another approach than Ralf's. Take a look at http://www.chattergalerie.de to get an idea.

Seems to me that is more a linklist?
But It is nice.
A while ago I needed such a module and used a php script instead.
Will it be available for the community?

Do you mean the Chattergalerie?

No, it's a profile list. I sold the script (it's in Perl) as a "Buisiness directory" a view years ago, too.

Will it be available for the community?

Of course. grin

Hey Ralf,

Any chance I can get a look at the code for what you've got or some sort of structure details?

I'm after a front end business directory where a business owner can log in and manage a profile regarding their business.  the profile would only require basic info to create a profile but the full profile would be as comprehensive as possible, allowing the business to expand on details as much as they want to.

Visitors can view, browse and search the directory like yellow pages.

Even if your module encompasses only part of this, perhaps it's something I can help out with.

I'm all for teamwork to get a module to where it can benefit all of us.

Thanks!

It's to early for this.

Here you have a view at already running dbPankeKontakte which is the basis/mainidea for dbContact.

In dbContact should be platform for multiple tools/addons i.e. first coming tool will be a newsletter module. You may access to dbContact via Droplet/Interface and insert/update records (also from frontend so that user may change their own datas).

dbContact will implement also GeoDB access and enable "Umkreissuche" / area by LAT/LON, flexible Kategories, direct access to WB user management a.s.o.

But it need some time, so please be patient - at the moment I have to finish two other projects.  cool

Teamwork is welcome every time but at the moment I must go the first steps by myself...

If map baker supports the import of LAT/LON data or can be called directly (by a droplet?) it's no problem.

dbContact itself will support OpenStreetMap (perhaps not within the first version but it will come).

Hi Ralf,

How are you making out with dbcontact?  I'd love to know if this is going to fill my needs.  Do you have any more info on it or a new ETA?

Cheers!  grin
