The steps developping a contest / social networking site

I'm just passing on to you notes of what i'm doing on a website called "DesignMoi" in french : http://www.designmoi.com/

There is an english version of the site, but right now we do not have found a NAME for that site, we are still searching... on the table now we have "Design Thyself", "WearableThought", "MindWear", "FiberThought" & "Fashony"... if you got any ideal, i'm listening!

First, let me tel you our goal.

A running contests site for design of t-shirts and wearable brands. There will be multiple contests, like one per week, and 3 form of contests (Marathon, Show Off & Face off, i'll will not get in to much details). They will be themed like "Funny road signs", "That's my genetics", "Renamed Acronym" and some corporate contests like "design a shirt for this XYZ brand".

People that will registers will get a "user page", profile picture, contests entry history, trophies and augmented profile. Also on their pages, they will be enabled to add SOME WB addons (right now we are tring news, a modified twitter & bookmarks). they will be able to "befriend" with other users and get to see what's change on their friends page on their own home page.

it's seams a little big, but i've been working on this since November 2008

Ok, now on with the "addons"

SignUp
First addons is "SignUp". because we needed a signup that will be in french and english, and ask for language too when signing up. It also add the ability to have signup and login on the same page. will redirect to a "profile page" when logged in.

ConcoursDesignMoi
This is the contest module, it work on a not-public state of page, about anything is in the admin to control :
- create a contest, controle user "superprofile" acceptance, control contest submission acceptance and deliver very small stats of the contests

- can create a contest, create a page per contest!

- can validate superprofiles

to do
- can't delete a contest (this one is not necessery)
- create a contest page only on "mod page", so need to create the fonction in the contest creation too

SuperProfile
This module give the user ability to control their public / non-public profile. This module will be needed to work with UsersPages. In this module,

you've got basic profile control of WB, but with language implementation (once again, needed multiple languages, but account module do not change at will)

Added to the profile will be : Basic infos for participating in a contest (Address, Phone, Sex & Birthday)
Some advance profiling options :
- Picture (profile picture, will be displayed in user pages, in other pages when getting changes infos etc.)
- Description text
- manipulation own addons (add, remove addons, go to modify my page)
- link to the friends page module

To Date 2009-06-28
Done :
- basic informations are done, (Address, sex, phone & birthday, but the phone and date got no validations)

PageConcours
This is the contest page module, it will be the cornerstone of the own system, if this fail, the site fail! hehe

The page will : display list of active / yet-to-be-active / archives contests, in a fashonly way, with a cute plugin to display the big pictures called "Fancy box"

When in the page, will show list of contest linking to the contests own page (redirect to this one, like "news" does it, but with a /language/contests/year/month/name-of-the-contest.html way)

when in a contest page, you'll contests infos (poster, rules, dates) but

when it's the submission time :
if you are logged but superprofile's not approoved : (they will be a message that say you need to update your profile, if done, you need to wait for an admin to validate)
if you are logged and active : you get the submission form
if you are not logged : you get a link saying you need to be logged to submit or vote.

when in vote time :
you get the display of every entry (by date of entry), with mini poster, description and user (with link to user pages)

if logged : you get to vote and see "big size poster"
if no-logged the same message saying you need to be logged to submit or vote

when in archive
you get to see each entry with theirs result from best to worst, but if you are logged, you can see the big poster (with fancy box)

to date 2009-06-28
done :
- page will display active contest with fancybox
- contests pages work perfectly
- can submit entry, but validation is still manual
- cannot see list of enties, anyway yet any contest have reach "vote time"
- cannot vote

to do :
- at least a sleepless night of working the voting system!

that's about it, will follow the dev in this topic, I hope we got an english version SOON.
