Site Map & Google

I installed Site Map version 3.0 on my wb 2.7.  Its working nicely for the users.   Now I need to ask a stupid question - why doesn't Google see the site map? (In Google webmaster tools, it tells me I need to create a site map for this site).

You have to "tell" Webmaster Tools, where your sitemap is (the URL).

Still have a problem. I pointed Webmaster Tools mydomain.com/pages/sitemap.php file, but Google didn't like the format:
"Unsupported file format"

The wb documentation for the sitemap page module points to a forum thread with postings dated 2005 and 2006 - not exactly reassuring.

I eventually googled the problem, and found a link to http://www.websitebakers.com/pages/code-snippets/various/google-sitemap.php?lang=EN to download google_sitemap.php.  The link on that page to a forum thread explains that

• this file creates the necessary xml file for all search engines
• you need to install the file in your root folder
• you can  point Google or other search engines to this file

Now waiting to see if Google is happy with this!
