For those of you who don't know what OBOTRA (One Back-Office To Rule them All) is:

It's a module that creates backends for other modules. So you will only have to build a frontend.

Eg.:

You want a product catalog on your website.

Just create a table in mysql width your required fields. Then go to the OBOTRA interface, add a folder and select your table. In 'step 2' of the setup, you can give labels to your field and choose which ones to be active in de backend.

OBOTRA wil generate a backend based on your settings to manage the data in the table you selected.

Then just write your frontend to put the data on your site. In the near future a template-based frontend will be available.

Hi Iceat,

the module sound great. Read the PDF and everything look straight forward, so tests will follow soon. Sounds like a good and helpfull candidate to standardize and speed up the module developement (prototyping).

Hi Iceat,

played around with Obotra but did not get it working. Think there are some errors in the install.php of the example module. When using a table prefix (like I do), the template stuff do not show up as the TABLE_PREFIX is not used when creating the prodcut cataloge tables.

Fixed that but run into some other SQL problems: "right syntax to use near '= 1 order by asc' at line 1" so I gave it up.

Can you please check and/or correct the errors if required? However read through the PDF and like the idea behind OBOTRA. Keep on the good work.

Hello iceat,

the first time I installed the mod on a WB-Installation that uses table prefix and got problems like doc. Then I made a fresh wb-installation without prefix. Here the module worked fine and I was able to rebuild the example of the attached documentation.

This is a very handy and flexible way to manage/display database content.

Do you plan to add the opportunity to manage the tables for the data or has this only be done by own modules?

I'm going to find a way to build tables out of CSV-files and perhaps OBOTRA could be a good base for this.

regards
Michael

There's a new version of OBOTRA on the way which has/will have the following improvements:

- no prefix problems (finished)
- OBOTRA is now a tool instead of a page module (finished)
- create custom form fields:
-> interface to create custom form fields (finished)
-> 'File select': create selectboxes that read the files from a directory. You can also filter extentions. (finished)
-> 'Checkboxlists' (not finished)
-> 'Radiobuttonlists' (not finished)
-> 'Selectboxes' (not finished)
- create folders that inherit the settings of their rootfolder (finished)

I hope to release it by the end of the month.
