Dear Community Members,

a lot of structural changes have happened recently to the WebsiteBaker project. Unfortunately some of the discussion surrounding the final decision made it less clear what the final decision was. As a result of the open discussion about the future of websitebaker, Ryan Djurovich made the decision to continue the developement of the designated sucessor of WebsiteBaker (formerly known as WebsiteBaker 3/WB3) under the new project name: PlatformRAD Open Source Edition. This decision comes along with some risk and many opportunities for the WebsiteBaker project.

The WebsiteBaker project had a lack of leadership over the past three years and was not very active in recruiting new team members from the WebsiteBaker community base. However, active team members are required to properly maintain growth and continous development in all areas of an Open Source project like websitebaker.

A small team of community members is currently working on the next version of WebsiteBaker - version 2.8. This version includes several bug fixes and a small number of improvements. A primary objective is to show the community that the WebsiteBaker project is still alive.

The actual number of team members however is by far too low to develop "real new" features like an enhanced media center, state of the art user/group permissions, or to address all the features requested in the WebsiteBaker community forum. Beside the core development, team members are required as forum moderators, to keep the Help project up to date, to review and test templates and Add-ons or to work on a facelift of the WebsiteBaker project websites.

All this can only be achieved, if we manage to recruite community members which take over responsibility in one of the areas mentioned above. So if you know your way around in PHP, JavaScript, HTML or you simply have those evenings where you just don't know what to do....Join the WebsiteBaker Team now!!!

We believe the WebsiteBaker project has a future, if we can manage to recruit new team members from the community base willing to give the project a new direction and shape. If you are interested in taking over an active part of this great Open Source Project, fill in the form located here.

Hello,

after the annoncement is out a little bit more then one week I'm very impressed how much people are willing to join the WebsiteBaker Team. This is a very good start for the future of websitebaker.

I will say thank you for all who are already joined. But this is only the beginning, for a real working community project we need as much people as possible to be active members. So feel free to join.

Hi,

I see the RC2 of WB 2.8. So, in a few days we can use WB 2.8 Final.
In any case, congratulations to the whole dev-team. Wonderfull job!! Unfortunately I don't know 100% who the members of the dev-team are.

Anyway, can we also look in the future? For several months, the community has some new and good programmers.
So, wouldn't it be nice if we skipped WB 2.9? And think about WB 3.0 with an extended dev-team?
And maybe the programmers of the dying Pacer Edition can also be involved?
Don't shoot me please, just an idea ...

Please be patient a few days till WB 2.8 is out. With the release of WB 2.8 I also will make an announcement about the future of WB. And I'm pretty shure the Community will see that WB has an future more then ever before.

Well, I think we still need a maintenance trunk 2.9 for fixes and updates, and for some "playing around" with the new options provided by jQuery and other new stuff. Apart from that, a bright new version 3.x will take much more time, for as far as I know, it will be developed from scratch. Are you really willing to wait 2 years or more for new features? wink

Well WebBird, somehow you are right.

Maybe Ruebenwurzel has to close this topic and wait until WB 2.8 is out?
Then he can start a new topic with "the future of WB" and "Wishes for WB"

There is certainly a future for WB!
