New Module: Foldergallery
«
on:

Hello!
I've developed a little gallery module wich is completely folderbased but also connected with the database for the captions of the pictures and the Descriptions of the Categories. It's still under developement but it's allready running. If you are intersted you can get more Information in the
German Forum in this Thread
. i'm also searching for a person wich can translate it to English, because my English is not very well.
Watch the Module in work
So, i'm waiting for your feedbacks!

This looks like a great module, nice work. I was looking for somthing like this a while back. Does it support items other than pictures? I would like somthing that supported PDF files or DOC files.
Is it possible to attach descriptions to the images?
these questions may have already been answered in the German forum but I can read it.
Again, Nice work

No, in this moment only pictures are suported. But im plan also a version for other files like PDF or DOC because this would be very nice for a download gallery.
Yes, descriptions are possible, not only for the pictures, also for the categories.
but a other user found a license problem with the highslide lightbox. the Highslide Lightbox script is under CC and not GPL, so am not shure what to do with this... Maybe i have to change to another Lightbox-script.

Very nice, i like the gallery but hope it has the good rights. If you want me to translate the module to Dutch send me the language file and i can translate it.
Hope to see a nice working version soon. Good work!

Looks good, but I don't see the descriptions anywhere except in the overview pages.
I look forward to see how you solved the problem of using directories and linking descriptions to the found items.
About the license.
Have you seen/tried the Imageflow gallery? I made it to use both Highslide or Lightbox.
Home users and commercial users who want to pay (or take the risk) can use Highslide, else just choose Lightbox.
As a developer you should not worry too much about how people will use it. That is their "problem".
Giving an alternative is just being nice.
Fort the rest, just warn that using the gallery commercially means you need to visit www..... and pay for the license.

Edit: Have you looked at Fancybox yet?

Oh, about the descriptions: they are only shown in the lightbox at this moment (and there ist only one or two...). but it's a easy template change and they are displayed where ever you want. (my module works with a template class, so the look can be changed easy!
thank you for the information about the licences!

I installed the module, set the picture folder and get the error "Synchronisation fehlgeschlagen". That's it. I cannot do anything further at all.

do you have allready subfolder (categories) in the folder? or is it just a single folder without any pictures? I't seems that there have to be allready some files and folders for the sync.

Create a subfolder and move your pictures there.
at this moment pictures in the rootfolder are ignored (you can't edit them in the backend but they are shown in the frontend). but it's not the meaning of the foldergallery that there are pictures in the rootfolder.

I have /media/images/ with pics in it. So, that should work, right?

your folder structure should look like this:
/media/images --> this is the root folder (which you have to choose in the settings)
/media/images/categorie1 (folder with your pics)
/media/images/categorie2 (another folder with pics)
/media/images/categorie2/folder (folder for subcategorie of categorie 2 with your pic's in it)
...

Aaaah!! Yes, now it works. I thought you meant by root folder the /Media folder.
This is very cool, just what I was looking for! But I think the lightbox script you use is terrible
I understand you have a HighSlide version as well? I understand it's commercial, but a licese is cheap and I would really like your script with Highslide. Is it available?
Another feature I would really like is a description area that understands line breaks. I'm glad it supports HTML, but it's not very cool to instruct my client to enter html code instead of a simple push on the Enter key. Is it possible to modify it so that it understands line breaks, or a simple javascript WYSIWYG? For example:
http://code.nth-iteration.ie/earea/index.html
http://www.wyzz.info

why do you think the lightbox is terrible?
No, there isn't a HighSlide version of the module anymore. If you want highslide you have to implement it by yourself. it's very easy and there is a very good documentation. go to
http://highslide.com/
for more information.
hmmm... about the line breaks... i think this needs just a small nl2br function and it should work. I have to try and test it. maybe implemented in the next version. WYSIWYG would be harder to implement because I never worked with such things. And I don't need it this moment, so I wouldent implement it. (if you realy need it write me a PM and we can deal out a price
)

The icons look crude, crappy and they cover the description if the browser screen is less high than the picture. I will send you a PM for custom job.

the icons are easy to change:
just replace the the pics in /modules/foldergallery/scripts/shutter/images with the one's you like.
which browser do you use? in Firefox and IE7 the images don't cover the description!

I didn't know about the icons, I'll have a look.
Both IE7 and FF show the icons over the text if the screen is not high enough. It seems that both the lightbox and the decriptions are placed on the bottom of the screen.

you have to chose /media/PICZ as 'Ordner im Dateisystem'. This way it should work!

Hi jrast,
thank you for this great module. I use it on my website
www.2rsweb.nl
.
I noticed that every time I start the browser freshly (IE7 or FF3) and select a picture, they open as a webpage and not as a overlay. After selecting (about) three or four pictures the overlay works fine.
Have you seen/heard this before?
Best regards,
Ron

Hi jrast,
thank you for this great module. I use it on m...
I have visited your website and it's picture gallery.
Your website is (and don't feel insulted) poory coded. All style sheets are in the source, not at one single spot, but all over the place. The page with the pictures has got many pictures to load too. Also your layout is made by tables, cells and rows and i have a feeling that the server of your webhost is responding a bit slow sometimes.
So when you click on a picture in the gallery, the page simply isn't ready loading with all needed files.
And the page definitely need the javascript file ...modules/foldergallery/scripts/shutter/shutter.js
This file is located at line 307 of the page. The whole page has 1545 lines of code...
That is really a lot.
So a short answer to your question, why the picture shows in an overlay after seeing 2 or 3 or 4 photos...
The javascript isnt loaded while you are allready started watching the pictures.

that's absolutly true! JavaScript don't work till the whole page is loaded!
