Currently it says "Coming 2009". Soon perhaps "Coming 2010" ...
And in 2012 the world will come to an end ... We still have time!

In twitter he said it will be Summer 2010...
But I don't know if it will be a free CMS...

- Won't this slow down the development of both systems?

- Will this lead to WebsiteBaker not being supported anymore?

- What are the main differences between both systems and why are the "improvements" of edgecms not included in websitebaker?

It looks like WebsiteBaker is going the joomla way. Lot's of discussion, ackward decisions and no decent updates.

I'm looking forward to some replies on this!

Well, besides the name - EdgeCMS / platformRAD has _nothing_ to do with websitebaker, only the WebsiteBaker founder Ryan (he retired just after WebsiteBaker 2.7 and wasn't in active development of WB since version 2.6.7) makes here some new CMS.

WebsiteBaker will stay websitebaker. I can't give you a Roadmap because Iam not in the position to decide / publish it and not in the knowledge to give you valid information, but WebsiteBaker will be supported in future.
There will be WB 2.x and WB 3.x.
Some time (perhaps even that year) both development branches will be splitted, so parallel working on 2.x and 3.x is possible. But WB 2.x will be just "finished", so better security, meeting Coding Guidelines / Standards, fixing and so on. Just to make it even better.
WB 3.x will be some new coded websitebaker, but mostly the difference between 2.x and 3.x "source code readers" will see, not that much the user.

WebsiteBaker is WebsiteBaker and will stay websitebaker, nobody needs a new Joomla / Silverstripe / ModX / Wordpress.

EdgeCMS or how it will be called after paying a found for false name rights is as different to WebsiteBaker as Joomla, Typo3 or Drupal.

So, let's see if I understand you correctly:

WebsiteBaker 3.x will be a new cms, and will not be called EdgeCMS or whatever. BUT it will have another architecture than 2.x. WebsiteBaker 2.x will not evolve anymore in the future unless for security fixes.

- So what about compatibility between 2.x and 3.x? Can we still use the same modules we developed. What about the complete module repository? Will all this work be lost (or only useable in WB2.x)?
- Will it be possible to upgrade from 2.x to 3.x?
- What will be the main differences in the architecture? And what would that mean for developers?

These are really important answers that we need. Some companies their main product is based on the WebsiteBaker cms.

Please note: That is just a personal from what I know and think I can tell you!

• WebsiteBaker 2 is now supporting PHP4.4.9 and PHP 5.x, but not for long - there will be some announcement it will only support PHP 5.2 in some time! Late that year PHP 4.x wont be supported anymore.
• WebsiteBaker 3 will be a new cms, because it will be OOP coded, so it requires at least PHP 5.1 (I guess even PHP 5.2). It will give module developer APIs, what WB2 is not really giving the module authors.
• Of course there will be some upgrade from 2.x to 3.x, as WebsiteBaker 3 is "just" a new version.
• There will be a WebsiteBaker 2.9 and there will be more 2.8.x versions, at least a 2.8.2 in Q2/2010.
• WebsiteBaker 3.x won't be in SVN this year and won't be in Betaphase propably 2011.
• When WebsiteBaker 3.x is stable, WB 2.x won't be supported anymore in a given time (e.g. 12 months) unless there is need for security fixes.

That is a personal view. But I guess there will be some official statement from the board the next weeks. Perhaps there will be some Roadmap in the future.
