Recently, discussions took place on the community forum regarding the future of the WebsiteBaker project (including both 2.x and 3.x versions).

The final decision made was to split the WB3 release off into another project entirely (new name), to avoid restrictions on WB2 and future development of the 2.x version. The new name will be PlatformRAD Open Source Edition (OSE).

To learn more about PlatformRAD OSE, please visit the official website here:
www.platformrad.org

If you would like to read the post that lead to this result, please go here:
http://www.websitebaker2.org/forum/index.php/topic,11680.0.html

I thank you all for understanding that this decision was not made easily, much thought went into making a decision that would result in the best outcome for all.

Great news, giving both WB2.x and platformRAD a future.

Hi Klaus,

This is nice. We can try WB3 (or should I say PlatformRAD  grin ) without WAMP.
Keep it updated with the latest version.

And Ryan,
Keep up the good work.

Dear Ryan,

first of all I would like to thank you that you have changed the name to PlatformRAD to ensure that work on WebsiteBaker 2.x can be continued.

I am very interested in the next WebsiteBaker Version on PHP 5 platform called PlatformRAD. Reading the posts I see that there will be a commercial and an open source version.

Are there any informations which restrictions the open source version will have?

as long as the users just play nicely and nobody tries to destroy something, i will keep http://www.kettner.it/rad/ running as an open sandbox for PlatformRAD and i'll keep it updated with the latest version.

A comment to the developers of WB and its successor PlatformRAD OSE

It´s shurely wise to have a sharp seperation of WB 2.x and further versions from PlatformRAD. Though PlatformRAD is a little bit curious name, I think we´ll fast adapt that name.

The more important question for me and obviously others will be: Will there be a migration tool from WB 2.xx to PlatformRAD if somebody is willing to change his site from wb 2.xx to PlatformRAD? Or will PlatformRAD only be for new sites?
I yet don´t know if I some day will change to platformRAD but I worry a bit about the possible fact, that the WB-development will be short of the PlatformRAD development. Am I true? huh

alexander1951: I would hope that eventually (maybe after the 1.1 or 1.2 release of PlatformRAD OSE) we will have a conversion script. But for the 1.0 version I doubt a conversion script will exist right away.

Dear Ryan, thanks for your response.
As I now learned in another forum, the development of WB 2.xx and PlatformRAD will be independent from each other, though "the developer will be the same" as I was told there. So that can only be you (BTW: my great respect to an 19-year-old successful cms developer! shocked).
As I further on learned, you are currently transferring the responsibility for WB 2.xx to other developers that are just forming up for this task. I think the most WB users are frightened of the "danger", that the development of WB 2.xx will be neglected beneficial to PlatformRAD. As far as we don´t know enough about the question if PlatformRAD will be on the right path (from the users point of view) most of us will stay with WB2.xx.

I´m glad to hear that there will be a migration script some time cause I intend to watch the development of PlatformRAD parallelly to further on using W2.xx for the next time.

Hello to all members and users!

As I'm limited in time, I didn't followed the discussion about dividing the project very close, but all I did understand was:

There is a new branch of WB, based on WB 2.7. What I'm asking is:

- Where can I find the full repository for this version (2.7 and later)?

Both for the WB2.7 and PlatformRAD developers What can I do for this project? I'm graphic designer, running small studio and if someone from the developing team is needing some of our skills, please answer here AND at glyph.graphic[at]gmail.com. We have experience in graphic design and branding.

Great respect for WB developers and hope it will live and getting better Smiley

And now I have finally settled on EdgeCMS (after purchasing the .com).
What WebsiteBaker 3 was going  to be, is now going to be known as EdgeCMS.
Checkout for www.edgecms.org for further details.
PlatformRAD is no longer going to be released as Open Source, as this no longer fits with the business model.
However, EdgeCMS will be an independent product with some really cool features.
I will let everyone know once I launch the EdgeCMS website, which will hopefully be in the coming month.

But EdgeCMS will be an open source or ??

Also, will it be an upgrate(compatibile) to WB 2.7/2.8 or you are going to use new variables in Edge ?

cheers

Hello,

think EdgeCMS will also be written from scratch as a totally new CMS. So I don't think that there will be a possibility to upgrade from WebsiteBaker to EdgeCMS. Both will be different Systems with different developements.

Correct. And yes it will be GNU GPL, but I am contemplating dual-licensing and offering a commercial license for those that need it. However, I primarily want to have an Open Source CMS with the same usability as WB, but with a completely different approach in terms of structure in the code and the community.

It means that WB and EdgeCMS are two different systems, modules and snippets are NOT interchangable!

@mickpage:
Thanks for sharing. See your point, maybe we see another name change in the near future.
Very curious to see who is the first who registers the German TLD, if there is is another need for a name change  (http://platformrad.de, http://edgcms.de, ...) smiley

I know it's an old thread, but I think using the name "edgecms" would cause many problems.
Look here: http://www.sitecrafting.com/edgecms/

Sitecrafting is a company with 20 employeers and exists over 10 years... So just think about another name of the new CMS I would suggest, or just code it and THEN think about that stupid name.
