I have not been able to find a long term solution so looking to see if anyone has any input.

Has anyone used a mod rewrite so pages show like this

www.domain.com/pagename.php

and not

www.domain.com/pages/pagename.php

I have tried
'http://www.websitebaker2.org/forum/index.php/topic,10745.msg63773.html#msg63773http://www.websitebaker2.org/forum/index.php/topic,10745.msg63773.html#msg63773'
and it seems to work with the exception of the first url (page) in the nav.  But the author has a warning NOT to implement the code on a live server.

thx

Question: Why?

Removing the /pages/ is just cosmetic. It has no SEO value!
There is not much difference with that or a page like http://www.microsoft.com/en/us/default.aspx.

If you don't like the /pages/, changing it to something else (like /html/ or /en/) is less risky.
The article you referred also has a good list of things that might give problems if you do the suggested trick.

WB is very good in SEO using named url's and not the J..la ?option=7823&module=mymodule&parameter=7hhsgw.
For those url's you want to rewrite. Not for WB urls.
