Massmail / Newsletter with full WYSIWYG support
«
on:

Hi Guys,
I (and I hope many other are) was searching for a standard WebsiteBaker newsletter module with WYSIWYG support. As I didn't find anything I tried some myself and the attached file is the result.
Me as a complete newbie (to PHP and websitebaker) would like to have some comment on the attached massmail module, if I did this correct or not.
It works for me on version WB v2.7.
(can't show an examle because my page is only for admins.)
hope you'll all enjoy it!
Sander.

Hi,
I find the idea is really good.
But unfortunately the first mistake is in the zip-package itself. Make the package without the folder massmail....
And the next I see in the backend: both versions (WB2.6.7 and WB2.7) are showing instead of the FCK-editor just an information-page: error 404 - page not found ??
massmail is annother modul called already - what about a different name? like wysiwyg-mail or just seemail?
And what about a few lines description? What is needed? If there is something - I didn´t check or look or something - is it based on massmail? - Is it totally new?
There is no sign of fck at all. - the send-from and send-to fields are filled out, but creation is impossible to me.
Sorry, but I don´t have better news.
regards from Himberg, next to Vienna

Hi,
After moving from host A to host B I noticed i was a little too fast posting the zip file.
All things you describe here I'd indeed encounter...
Removed the Zip and will upload asap some more info!
thnx for the feedback!

Second tryout:
In the zip file attached you will find the module Massmail (check repository) with in addition a WYSIWYG editor.
I integraded the FckEditor within the massmail module.
You need to have installed:
- WB (duhh)
- FckEditor (Standard in WB since version 2.6 i believe, do not reïnstall or alter the standard, not tested!)
- The attached ZIP WYSIWYG_Massmail.zi
p
- For your visitors to be able to (un)subscribe themselfs you need the snippit "Newsletter" integraded into the page (or template)
What you need to do to make this work:
Step one:
Extract the WYSIWYG_massmail.zi
p to a folder.
Step two:
Open modify.html in your favorite editor (wordpad will do just fine)
UPDATED
Step three:
Perform a search and replace; search for
www.your-domain.nl
and replace it with {WB_URL}/
DO NOT FORGET THE SLASH!
Step four:
Add the adapted modify.html into the WYSIWYG_Massmail.zi
p (choose overwrite if asked)
Step five:
if you
don't
have massmail installed:
Install the attached ZIP file via the Admin section of WB.
If you
allready have
massmail installed:
upload the files directly into
www.your-domain.nl/wb/modules/massmail
Final step:
Login into the admin section, create a page "newsletter" and select massmail as type.
If you have any questions, please ask them.
For installation and other support of the massmail module or newsletter snippit:
Feel free to ask but i'm a limited coder/developer.
Please check the forum, there is plenty of info there!

Fine,
it´s ok now!
I would like it, definitly, if I could use it.
Unfortunately I had a problem to send mails with this module in the past and it´s still impossible to send mails with it for me. I can create mails, I can choose a group, I can create a group, I can click to send the created mail - than I get a page, telling me "This mail couldn´t be sendt." That´s it.
In the past I was already trying to get the module running and was only lucky when I mixed the actual and a previous version - but than I had a problem with a restore of the db, caused by entries from module massmail. So I´m definitly not willing to try again.
I´m wondering if I´m the only one having problems to use this module.
BTW: I just miss the possibility to change a mailgroup. - Anyway I cannot use it - so this isn´t very important to me. But I´m wondering how to modify - the only way will be to remove or add users from/to a group is to do it one by one?
And I know, as-lahaye, You aren´t the coder of the module - I don´t blame You, I just mentioned my thoughts to the theme massmail-module at all.
This mod looks much better now and is much more email-like to use, and I think it is a big enrichment to have the wysiwyg integrated.

Thank you.
While developing I create backups of the root and the databases after every 2 or 3 minor changes.
It's a lot of work but still less then to create all your work again...
It happend to me the first time with
www.gerdine-hoeve.nl/gh
messed up the database and WB root and started again. Luckely I wasn't real far at the moment but I did learn my lesson.
The fact that you can't sent e-mails, have you checked your server side settings? can you send e-mails with other modules? (like an e-mail form)
It is working just fine for me, altough I admit it is somewhat not user-friendly...
The way I managed groups:
The only way I used is to edit your database (don't forget to backup!)
I had to copy 620 mail addresses from another PHP module (not compatible offcourse) and did that with a SQL query.
I'd love to hear about someone who uses massmail on a weekly / monthly base and what he/she thinks about this little intergration...

Hello,
in Massmail there is always an text on the bottom of the mailtext like:
----
bla bla...
I would like to have this in "Massmail / Newsletter with full WYSIWYG support" too!
What have I to do for making this work?
(zur Sicherheit noch mal auf Deutsch:)
Ich hätte gern einen vorgegebenen Text am Ende der Mail, den ich nicht immer neu eingeben muss

I have the same problem as borrmann.
How can i unclude the standard footer in der WYSIWYG-Editor field?
Is there a way to send the stylesheet includes in the E-Mail or do I have to format all thbe Text by Font-Tags?

Hi Peeters,
at your image I can see nothing. so it's just guesing what it can be. Can you post an better image in English?
@jsd: I'm not useing this Modul, but I think there are 2 ways:
First is to include it in the Database.
Second to include it to the .php file.
Both need to have experiance with php and Mysql. So the easiest way is to write it one time in WYSIWYG, go to Sourcecode, copy it in a text file and include it everytime you write a massmail.
Maybe someone can include a 3rd WYSIWYG field or something similar with defould fooder and header to the Modul.

ok with this I really have no idea...
So what I did is install it by my own. Base is WB2.8 1171, PHP 5.3, Apache 1.7.2, fresh install.
First I got this:
Quote
Notice: Use of undefined constant user_id - assumed 'user_id' in P:\xampp\htdocs\wb_test\modules\massmail\modify.php on line 138
Notice: Undefined variable: users_id in P:\xampp\htdocs\wb_test\modules\massmail\modify.php on line 307
E_ALL&E_NOTICE says nothing after coming back to the side. Error lock is empty.
So what I would do in your Case: deinstall the modui, clean the DB and directoy and try latest vers again.
Something else I don't know... sry

No solution for me. there has to be a reason... I just don't find one at the moment... Can you test massmail without WYSIWYG? I want to know if it is a massmail or a WYS problem...

I added the code form the thread above. I think it should work by just installing/upgrading, without need to change any code.
Be careful not to add a WBlink in your newsletter, they won't be recognized in the email.

prefixed style for the mail:
mailtemplate:
put a table inside the textarea (somewhere in modify.php or something like that) with predefined header, colors etc
be sure to use tables and do NOT use divs for the newsletter, microsoft outlook cannot handle divs in mailtemplates
other than that you can style the mail how you like using the texteditor
