Can we change the way this modules delivers mails to the recipients?

Instead of mails routing thru SMTP (and wait for the SMTP to deliver the messages), can the script just deliver the mails directly one by one, by calling up the  recipient's mail server directly?

Mails sent directly to the server will ensure:

- fast delivery
- directly delivery to the inbox (less chance of mails being delivered in the spam/bulk mail folders)
- ...

Any takers?

Hi Bgg,

I currently send out a newsletter to 5000 emails twice a week.
And based on my personal experience....
- Direct mail delivery is slower than through SMTP
- Direct deliver is not accepted by many servers
- Direct delivery is what spammers uses....
- Lots of italian providers/server don't allow at all Direct delivery

I personally switched to SMTP ONLY sending after warning my provider of my high volume of email traffic.
Be careful, many providers have limits and special policies for SMTP traffic.(eg. max msgs per hour and/or tarpitting)

Regards,

Stefano
